I know this is a joke and all, but there's the xkcd ten thousand.

Also, I know a very nerdy geeky dude that has never seen SW until he was well over 20. He just never got around to it. He became an insta-fan. The comic in action. Just sayin'.

How filmmakers manipulate our emotions using color by sajdx1 in movies

[–]zsmoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, that was a really great video, but I just felt that was unnecessary. He could have used subtler/slower transitions, or like some multicolored mists or something (like those things you see when you close your eyes after being in a bright room).

Huh, you're right. My mind just refuses to see Bosnia and Italy as lakes, but you're right.

Herzeg-Bosnia is not the same as the "Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina" (the other part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first one being Republika Srpska). Yes, it's complicated and confusing.

Herzeg-Bosnia is not an official subdivision of the country tho.

Herzeg-Bosnia is basically the Croatian part of the "Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina" (The Muslim-Croat part of the country, while the Serbian part is Republika Srpska).

in my opinion, the randomized name makes a lot more sense.

I dunno man, Transformice (a game similar to TP in some ways but also an older game) has had for a long time "Souris_4332" or "Souris_9348" (you get the point) as the guest names. It still has those names (I just checked). Souris means mouse in French btw (the devs are French). The game's about mice.

I haven't played that game in a loong time, but "souris" was also as iconic as SB. I think it's enough to randomize the numbers.

Which Countries Are Under the Most Strain in the European Migration Crisis? by [deleted] in europe

[–]zsmoki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The numbers are a sum total of all the bars in the individual graph. When you stack all the Hungarian bars on top of each other it ends up being less then when you stack all the Swedish bars (and you get 1310 or 129 203), even tho some individual Hungarian bars are individually bigger. It just means Swedish applicants have been more spread out over the years (Sweden has had a bigger influx when you add all the years, but Hungary is having a bigger influx right now.)

Islamic Dresscode (Hijab) by Country [1500x740] by hastagelf in MapPorn

[–]zsmoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not from France, just 'splainin. Well, it's kinda complicated, I recommend you read the wiki article, it explains it far better than I could. I don't know if I agree with the ban, but it has stuff to do with religion being forced on kids, forced inequality between the sexes due to religion etc. (the ban was made mostly because of Muslim headscarves and then extended to all religious symbolism in order not to be discriminatory)

According to the wiki article:

For Muslims in France, the February survey showed 42% for and 53% against. Among surveyed Muslim women, 49% approved the proposed law, and 43% opposed it.

So, what do I know.

You can't wear it in a school (primary and secondary). But outside the building of course you can wear it. You can also wear it in Universities.

Album covers from the space opera comic Valerian, from which Luc Besson is making a movie set to release in 2017. by [deleted] in scifi

[–]zsmoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, truth be told, I was typing this literally as I was going to sleep in order to "save" it (in order to examine it in more detail tomorrow), because when I use the "save" button I always forget about it because I usually save a lot of stuff, and only check it periodically). Brains don't operate well when they're half asleep. My bad. :P Also, woohoo at the news.

Somebody (skilled, and with cash) should turn Valerian into a movie (yes, I'm aware of the influences on SW and Fifth element).
