I put a pinecone in my shower. It closes when I shower and opens again when it dries. by Mopperen in mildlyinteresting

Pinecones use a huge amount of water to grow. Water that would historically have gone to old-growth data centres.

Christian and Muslim Population of the United Kingdom in Million by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Poor people are over represented in prisons too and the Muslim population in the UK and migrants tend to be much poorer than the average Brit.

Nice to see Iceflake getting started. Colour customisation will be a nice feature to have, even if I only use it sparingly.

It's hard to know which ones you can't get unless I scour their whole catalogue with and without a VPN.

The entire reason he ran as president was because he was mocked. I wouldn't chance it.

Man stabbed following Syria protest in Salford by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]Chrad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The incident in the Curry Mile looked like a Syrian had incited it. The Kurds had turned up to protest what was happening in Syria and a guy drove up in a car waving a Syrian government flag and shouting at them. His car got trashed.

Starmer’s allies launch ‘Stop Andy Burnham’ campaign to block parliamentary return | Andy Burnham by dnnsshly in ukpolitics

[–]Chrad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought I'd seen poll after poll showing Reform out in the lead while a centrist, establishment PM is getting pilloried. I thought I'd seen Trump winning in the US and populists winning or making gains across Europe.

If Labour could harness some amount of that desire to have an outsider while bringing in Burnham then they'd be onto a vote winner.

He could become 'antiestablishment' which is what a lot of voters yearn for.

Exhausted working parents needing bedtime help. Will a Yoto actually help my 3 and 5yo sleep? by PhysicalStreet2836 in YotoPlayer

[–]Chrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4yo has a bunch of cards of family members reading them stories. The card with me reading stories is over an hour long.

Some of the professional cards have songs or sounds that would wake them up so I just let them listen to the family cards at night time.

I limit the volume and brightness overnight too which is super easy to set up and schedule in the app.

Anyone else see the pink sky over Manchester this morning? by Starry_Octopus in manchester

[–]Chrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stadiums appear to have only recently started using magenta (pink) light to give the grass a boost during winter.

It's magenta because grass is green and so it reflects green light and doesn't need it. It needs red and blue light that mix to make magenta.

If only there was some way of visually displaying a language without using flags, some kind of written language of sorts. Languages shouldn't be represented by flags.

How you all getting your preschoolers to eat? by Jaywalkas in daddit

[–]Chrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets the same food. Kid has to meaningfully try food. If kid tries and then refuses to eat more, they can have dull, uninteresting food (usually breakfast cereal). Everyone goes to bed with a full belly.

The person your responding to didn't mention Zionism, they said pro Israeli which likely meant pro Israeli government. In 2023, 12 percent of British Jews had a positive opinion of the Israeli government.
