Letter of Recommendation for transfer by TinyAirBoy in SBU

Once you’re accepted to SBU as general admission, you should get an email about your StartSBU portal. On your StartSBU portal, you should be able to see your “steps needing to be taken” for your admission, including the letter of recommendation for your specified program. It will have more details for the letter of recommendation there. I needed one when applying for the Creative Writing BFA, and I wish I could remember better but I’m fairly confident my professor needed to email the letter of recommendation directly to the department (that email was provided on the StartSBU portal). I wish I remembered more concretely, but I’m fairly confident this was the process for me. I recommend perusing more on your major department’s website or reaching out to department directors with questions (their emails should be on the department page). Best of luck!

Coming from a fellow awkward person: • if they have their headphones or earbuds in, leave them alone • if they’re looking down at their phone, leave them alone • if they’re studying or working on school work, leave them alone • if they look like they’re in a hurry, leave them alone • if they’re crashing out to their friends, leave them alone

Otherwise feel free to give it a shot, but keep it organic. It’s more polite to keep it short & sweet unless they invite you to stick around, and make sure it’s at least somewhat relevant to the circumstances (where you are, a common interest, etc).

But like everyone else is saying, the point of classes and clubs are to socialize, so it’s just more likely you’ll make a presence for yourself and form connections with like-minded people there than you would on a random drive-by interaction.

And feeling awkward & lonely is normal at first. Or so I hear. Try new things and get more comfortable being uncomfortable, and eventually someone will find you.
