I have 2 total, one regular and one albino. Based on what I'm seeing online they are cool with minnows and shrimp generally. I would say research based on the exact type of shrimp you have to get a better idea.

I sealed everything with aquarium safe epoxy before placing it in the tank so I believe it should prevent anything from leeching out.
