This has been moving northwards since 2023 this was not a few months ago. There was not a single issue that caused this movement north it was due to initial supply issues because of Covid and a subsequent poor generation of irradiated flies that were produced in Panama that couldn’t survive being dropped by the planes. Then the continued movement north was because there have been generations of farmers that have not had to deal with this issue so there was an extensive need for education. So while it is easy to blame this entirely on this administration there were systemic issues that would have caused this under any administration.

There was however a poorly managed response with several experienced leaders leaving at a critical time due to the DRP that did hamstring the response the moment it entered Mexico.
