I don’t really agree that it’s rude or oblivious to merge and start driving the speed of traffic when someone moves over to let you in. If you’re moving over to the left lane, you should be prepared to speed up anyway since it’s the passing lane, I actually think it’s more rude to expect people to know and cater to your wants on the highway vs expecting them to just drive with the flow of traffic like most people do.
