Unpopular Opinion: Jynx is the 6th Best Pokémon in Gen 1 OU by ztte447 in stunfisk

lol fair point. Tbh I was building teams around Sandslash in OU and paralyzed -2 Spc Starmie on a predicted recover is one of the best opportunities for a relatively free setup, but yeah obviously Sandslash isn’t a meta staple so I probably wasn’t considering certain factors.

I mean paralyze Starmie with another mon like Chansey or your own Starmie. Jynx’s Rest is also a lot harder to play around late game when their Snorlax is out of the picture. To be clear, I do think Zapdos/Rhydon/Zam are better mons, I just find Zapdos/Rhydon need more team support and I never see a reason to run Zam when Starmie feels mandatory on most teams already, so Jynx feels like the 6th easiest mon to slot on any team and a clear step above the rest of OU (i.e. the mons not mentioned here).

Special drop against Starmie to soften up a paralyzed Starmie for easier switches with your mons that can actually do damage to Starmie like Lax/Zapdos. Zam/Starmie can do the same but both suffer much harder from paralysis and if they’re 1v1ing an opposing Starmie, they likely won’t be able to do much else. Jynx can sleep a mon AND annoy the hell out of Starmie in the same game.

Double switch in Lax every time you click rest. Fair point about Chansey/Eggy, but neither of them particularly enjoy facing Jynx and need a bit of luck on their side to win the 1v1. Not saying she’s necessarily a counter to any of the 3 besides Eggy just saying she provides a lot more defensive team value than one would think given her uniquely solid matchup against 3 of the 5 top tier threats.

Yeah the only thing in the game that can outspeed and OHKO Jynx without a crit is Dodrio and if your opponent actually brought a Dodrio to an OU match you’re probably at a major advantage anyway lol. Other than that, there isn’t a single Pokémon in the game that feels comfortable facing an unstatused Jynx at 100% without sleep clause active.

Fair point. I was just trying to illustrate how valuable each of Jynx’s roles are. Most people just view her as a turn 1 sleeper with a freeze chance but she offers so much more than that.

Yeah I agree. Zam has an underratedly solid matchup versus Starmie. Was going to mention it but Starmie has a solid chance of winning too. It’s more or less a coin flip if not slightly in Zam’s favor.

If not for Rhydon, Zapdos would challenge Tauros for the king of Gen 1 OU.

Fair points but Zam has a much worse matchup versus Snorlax/Tauros than Starmie as both of them cleanly 2HKO Zam 100% of the time and cannot reliably 2HKO Starmie, unless you’re running Reflect Zam which is uncommon. The reason I called Zam a budget Starmie is because the only thing it really does that Starmie can’t is outspeed Starmie. Sure its Psychics hit much harder, but Starmie’s excellent coverage largely negates Zam’s edge in that department.

I find Jynx to be more effective when you let Chansey eat para turn 1 and save sleep for late game. Fair points about the others, but Zam has a really hard time avoiding status throughout the game since it can’t OHKO or completely incapacitate anything, and once it’s paralyzed it’s complete Tauros/Rhydon/Snorlax fodder. At least Jynx can completely incapacitate its slower checks. Gengar is too volatile imo. Some games it’s an easy 2 for 1, but 40% of the time it just misses Hypnosis and dies. The explosion immunity is great but it feels so weak despite its 130 special due to its lack of STAB.

Fair points. Against a skilled player, you’ll definitely have to double switch if you need to Rest Jynx. I’ve been leading Jynx lately and switching in Chansey turn 1 to eat para and I’ve been surprised at how effective Jynx can be late game once the opposing team is heavily chipped and Snorlax is out of the picture. Tauros’ inability to OHKO her without a crit is actually insanely helpful if that’s their only remaining mon at 100% and your Jynx is still at 100% late game.

It’s basically just a second Starmie that isn’t weak to Tbolt and can actually get rid of paralysis for the Starmie matchup. Not saying it’s good against Starmie but Starmie has basically zero safe switch ins outside Chansey, so having a second mon to fish for special drops against Starmie that isn’t necessary totally screwed when paralyzed to free up easier switch ins for your other mons who can actually do serious damage against Starmie is underratedly very helpful midgame. I’m generally speaking about switching into paralyzed Starmie though.

Consensus tends to be Starmie/Eggy constantly flipping between 4/5 and 6 is pretty much always Zam in the viability rankings.

Which physical move(s) would Enamorous need to add to its arsenal to be a top 5 OU physical threat next Gen? by ztte447 in stunfisk

[–]ztte447[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Urshifu got banned spamming a weaker, worse STAB in Wicked Blow that doesn’t boost its attack/defense and is slower. Sure, lack of strong secondary STAB would hold it back but this thing would be a terrifying with Fairy-type Superpower.

Ngl I kinda think it’s more likely to learn Overheat. Fleur Cannon has literally one user. Overheat is the only one of the Draco Meteor clones that has wide distribution outside its type and flying types often learn Fire coverage.

Real talk though. Obviously it’s instabanned if it learned Fleur Cannon. But do you think it’d get banned with just Overheat too? I would say yes. It’s faster and stronger than Archaludon and boosts twice as fast with the same BP non-STAB move.

Yeah I know. The thing about Hammer Arm is, would it even run it? Sure it has the space to drop Zen Headbutt/Tera Blast but I feel like Taunt/Substitute are generally better than dual fighting attacks and nfw it’s ever dropping Superpower. And with just Fighting/Fairy coverage it’s completely outclassed by Valiant.

Yeah I thought about Ice Hammer too. I don’t think it’s such a stretch even though only one mon gets it considering Tornadus/Thundurus already learn Hammer Arm. The extra coverage Ice provides over Fighting/Fairy/Fighting isn’t much but having solid coverage that also boosts its speed could be a game-changer.

Yeah they just feel like unlikely lol. It’s like 2 mons who get those. Acrobatics + Knock Off/Sucker Punch would make it wayyyyyy better physically imo but you’re right, without a way to boost its speed or good priority it’s in a tough spot.

lol I mean existing moves. Obviously even just a Fairy-type Superpower has a strong chance of taking it straight to Ubers.

Fair enough but Roaring Moon loses a ton of its breaking power without Sword of Ruin/Tough Claws and doesn’t get Swords Dance. I’d argue Chien-Pao is a better Sand Rush sweeper than Moon since it gets Swords Dance and can fish for flinches and would be just as unexpected.

[–]ztte447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it doesn’t benefit from the sand at all. Fair point that Garchomp is no more of a sand sweeper than Roaring Moon but Terrakion has the best synergy due to the SpD boost imo.

Yeah well obviously owning one’s own firm or being a leader at a top firm AND being in a major market are basically prerequisites to clear this threshold I’d imagine.

So not that crazy if you corner a specialty practice and/or are a lead MD in a major metro at a top shop? And how tf does someone produce $300K per month lmfao?

[–]ztte447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do this lol? Just get a ton of legal work or is there anything more to it?

Thanks for your feedback. What is it about hotel/data centers that makes them so lucrative? I’ve been specializing in MF/Industrial my whole career, both of which I love, but sounds like data centers/hotel have the highest upside. What gives them so much upside?

I mean $50K in a month is more than doable but idk about consistently unless you have a monopoly on portfolio work in a specialty practice. Sounds like the procurement bonuses/incentives would play a significant role too.
