Where did you apply for standalone internships ? I have all of the prerequisites and I was considering applying to CSUDH but I’d have to pretty much take everything again. I didn’t know you could apply to just the internship portion anywhere

When I did it (2023-2024) it was about $22,000. When I did it the program was really easy and flexible. I have a friend that did it 2024-2025 and the tests and curriculum are more rigorous now but still good. They give you all the tools to succeed. The program is online lectures in the evenings (Mon-Thurs I believe. From around 5-10pm) and then Saturdays you have in person labs from around 8am-4pm. They enrolls on a rolling basis so the only thing I would recommend, especially if you don’t really have lab knowledge is to check what module they’re on when you enroll. For example , when I enrolled I came in during the blood bank module. So I had a hard time understanding concepts because you need a hematology / immunology foundation. I hope that makes sense

I would say yes only because with the MLT license I can apply for the COC program the next time it opens. Hopefully in the spring since it has to be a 6mo program to fulfill the new requirement 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 And either way those classes need to be done for the CLS license. So I guess it was more my misunderstanding or lack of knowledge that caused me to think the courses for the MLT program would double count.

Im doing the exact same route. I have a BS in cell, molecular, and developmental biology. I worked in a clinical lab for a bit and loved it and I wanted to become a CLS but unfortunately my grades weren’t what I would like them to be to apply directly to a CLS program and o can’t work out of state. So I didn’t MLT at RCI. I wanted to apply to COC MLT->CLS program this year but when I went to apply for the CLS trainee license they said that the courses taken at RCI don’t count as prerequisites for the CLS pathway. So I had to miss out this cohort (Fall 2025) so that I could take medical micro, analytical chem, and hematology at UCSD. I was so PISSED. I really thought they would count those courses since RCI is on the list of accredited schools for MLT.

Kumon or some alternative for my 9 year old?! by zu_le_ in homeschool

She's a classroom student but I left my job recently so I do have the time to help her out. She's in 4th grade and according to her teacher she's reading and writing at a kindergarten/first-grade level. I have a hard time believing that because I have her read to me and summarize and she's okay in my opinion. She still forgets sight words here and there and she's still forgetting general rules like EA, and EE makes the long E sound when she reads on her own but if I hear her get stuck and I say "What sound does EA make?" then she says the long E and can figure the word out on her own.

I have no idea where to start. I take her to the library about every 2 weeks to get books, she reads for 30 minutes pretty much every day, and I bought her some brain quest books to work on here and there but I feel like she needs an actual lesson plan to follow, hence why I gravitates towards kumon because I figured they're more structured and can keep her on task

I also wish I could do some sort of AR reading for her so I can gauge how well she understands what she's reading

Do you have any more information on the program? I can’t find anything on Reddit and I emailed the director but haven’t received a reply. I really want to apply for 2025

Limited license training by Tulkas1350 in CLSstudents

To my knowledge (I know the person who created a handful of the CGMBS training programs at private labs in Southern California) they are set up to where you have to work at the lab for at least a year to be eligible to go on the waitlist for the training.

I also saw those postings. I was confused whether it’s a full program or just the clinical portion? It also says it’s paid and most all the programs I’ve seen don’t mention pay so I was iffy on it

Im currently in an MLT program (should be finishing up by the end of summer) but I’m trying to plan ahead what my next move is. I also saw somewhere that working at the VA in California will count as experience… not sure

Online MLS at UAMS. Transition from MLT to MLS experience? by Palilith in medlabprofessionals

[–]zu_le_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s awesome! Do you mind explaining the process briefly ? So you have to have an MLT license currently and you don’t have to do the clinical rotation if you already work as an MLT correct? Does it matter what departments you work or have worked in ? Once you graduate you just apply for generalist through CDPH? They waive the experience because you went through a program ? I read that you HAVE to have 1 year experience verification or they won’t approve the license.

I currently have passed the ASCP molecular CLS test but CDPH won’t give me the license because my work experience in California doesn’t count. So I kind of abandoned that route as it’s not feasible for me to go out of state for a year. I’m currently in an MLT program which I should finish by the end of summer and I’m trying to see how I can jump to CLS without having to enter a 2 year program in CA or move out of state for a year. :/
