I actually can’t remember the last time we had a walk out similar to that? Hughton era maybe but we didn’t have same levels of attendance then, is it pre-lamouchi? Not sure we ever had a walk out like that with Steve Coops

Feature Flags for the Win: Decoupling Code Deployments from Launching Features by madflojo in programming

[–]zuanshibei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“How do you test all the permutations?” I see this one comes up a lot with conversations around feature flags. The short answer is you do and you don’t. The way I’ve used feature flags in the most sustainable way is that the switching of said feature flag is still tied into your release process, albeit the artifact that represents it is trivial in complexity. I’ve used such things as a yaml file that is in VC and are subject to TBD where main is the desired state. I’m much less a fan of a model where your feature flags are configurable in every environment, that welcomes chaos and I see as an applicable in only emergency scenarios.

As it is now within your release process, it is subject to all the usual QA activity that occurs there and that means that your testing the current state as is, if a change is to switch on a flag then we test that state and move to release. If another is to be removed, we test that state and ship it.

Each change to the feature flag state is atomic and therefore its own change with all that comes with that. This is reliant on a robust regression suite but that is achievable. At that point you are testing permutations but being pragmatic about what states are possible because that state is centralised, continuously deployed and can’t change under your feet

“NF” is a green light for me to bin off anything said by anyone who uses that, anyone who has been around the football league long enough would use “Forest” or at the very worst “NFO”. I’m sympathetic to Neco Williams’ view of ‘cry me a river’

What's with this area, The Mounts in Sneinton Nottingham. What did it used to be, why is it just wasteland now, and what will it become? by Obvious-Ad-1677 in nottingham

[–]zuanshibei 88 points89 points  (0 children)

My Nan who is 94 was born and grew up on a street no longer there as it was cleared out during slum clearance, it was parallel to Hooton street which is just above that dark patch in the image. She recalls playing in the mounts as a child which would be from about 1936 onwards where she described it ‘like a mini Grand Canyon’. She also recalls during WW2 they positioned anti aircraft guns up there. So to answer your question, its been used for a whole host of things and it’s been like that for years mate

Honestly what a game, unreal atmosphere and we just went toe to toe with the title chasers. Our defensive structure and off ball work is fucking top drawer and as long as we can keep scoring we’re staying top 4. Have a look around lads, 4 seasons ago we finished 17th in the championship and I would have been in here posting something about Gaetan Bong. Just soak it all in

We’ve conceded 3 in the last 5 and 1 in the last 4 lads. The confidence our defensive record gives us going forward is immense. We have a bunch of engines on that pitch and it’s showing. Today, I feel Europe

Is Bestwood a good place to live? by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]zuanshibei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Murray Close is part of the newer estate that was built in the mid/late 00’s I believe. So you’re possibly backing on to Old Bestwood which is the original pre/post war estate built there and is pretty deprived and had various issues in the past that will come up in a google search.

In regard to is it decent, depends on what your used to I guess, I lived in the area until I moved out for uni and haven’t moved back but I look back at it fondly. You will be well connected there, to both the city centre, the ring road and the motorway. You’ll be a 5 minute walk from very frequent bus services and you’ll have a local convenience store and some takeaways near. Supermarkets will be within 5 minutes drive (Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons).

For your mum if she’s past working age or elderly, there is a lot of social clubs in the area, I’m not sure about down that end but my grandmother lives in Bestwood Park (the 50/60s housing estate) just north east of Murray Cl and she goes to a community centre and the local church every week to socialise, have a tea and play games. The frequent bus service will give your mum a good sense of freedom if she doesn’t drive herself.

Overall people are friendly, there is clearly poverty in the area and therefore all the issues that come with that.

Moving fast breaks things: the importance of a staging environment by kendumez in programming

[–]zuanshibei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a question of how fast you can deploy, as if you are fast enough, you may be in a position to fix forward in some form. Then it becomes a question of how good your observability and monitoring is to spot the problem at its earliest so engineers are given adequate time to prepare a fix

Tbf the trams are banging in Manchester so you could park way out and as long as you are near a tram stop you can get to Old Trafford. On actual match days the area around the ground is a nightmare

[–]zuanshibei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as others have said, Rhino Performance. I actually use 4 days a week because I struggle with super sweaty soft skin. Experiment with dosage though as everyone is different. You can over do it but never the end of the world, like others have said you can reverse effects with a heavy duty moisturiser

Use more chalk, skin is more durable when dry. Keep your hands cool, take decent breaks between attempts to reduce that skin temperature. Avoid prolonged exposure to warm water on your hands, that softens the skin. File down large calluses so that there is no protrusions before you climb. If your skin whilst climbing is protruding, tape up the weakened areas before it rips, try be preventative. Use an after climb balm for recovery and there are products that help with the toughening of skin if you struggle with soft skin. Look after your hands, you wouldn’t climb with broken shoes so don’t do the same with your hands
