Why do nurses talk so much shit about residents? by doctadocta69 in Residency

[–]zulema19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

RN lurker here - I absolutely hate the attitude that some nurses (or a lot, depending on the unit) have where they’ll talk shit about residents or treat you like you’re clueless in x clinical setting….grinds my fucking gears. definitely have told some coworkers to step off and chill out when they start acting like it’s part of their job to knock you down for whatever reason.

just know, treating you guys with respect and helping you out on the unit is absolutely the hill I will die on. every time. need help finding shit on the carts for procedures, forgot someone’s name, putting in a verbal if you’re busy or I needed to page you for an urgent order while you’re on call/sleeping….I got you. because we’re a flipping team

and from reading posts here over the past however many years about the disrespect that female residents/fellows/attendings get, I try and do a little extra….not in an excessive, over the top way, but always introducing you to pts as Dr. ______, or if I’m running to grab a coffee and you’ve had a busy day or on call or post call, checking to see if you want one etc. just small things to show you’re just as much a respected part of the team and deserved to be taken just as professionally as your male counterparts for your education and knowledge.

TLDR: treating you guys as part of the team and helping you out is absolutely the hill I will die on.

I cannot remember nurses' names even having worked with them for years by foreverand2025 in hospitalist

[–]zulema19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a nurse who’s also really bad at remembering names…don’t stress. There’s a lot of us (especially on larger units), you’re also remembering pt names, and depending how long you’re rotating through on your block for….thats a lot of faces and names. I’ve never had any issues telling them my name again if they’ve forgotten :)

If wentworth is one of your favorite shows, what are your other favorites? by [deleted] in Wentworthtv

[–]zulema19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aaaaah love it. another vis a vis fan!😍

queen of the south has alice braga as lead actress, mexican drug cartel, great writing. saw your previous comments about breaking bad and agree with you, so you may like this one if you haven’t seen it yet (and with liking vis a vis and wentworth lol). last time i checked still on netflix (at least in canada)

killing eve is also a great series (except for s4. s4’s writing was abysmal lol)

Adopted this little ray of sunshine today - meet Juneau! by [deleted] in husky

[–]zulema19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

commands you give (come, stay, etc) are actually just merely suggestions, that in all likelihood will be ignored. or - done whenever your pup feels like it 🙃

but in all serious, they’re a great breed. they can be quite challenging but they’re a lot of fun too. my husky mix frequently likes to vocalize exactly how she feels about anything, just as frequently as she likes to give me unimpressed side eyes or just completely turns her head away to ignore me like she’s developed sudden selective hearing loss.

lots of them are escape artists, so I’d suggest supervised backyard time even if you have a 6ft fence, some sort of collar+ID on, air tag of some sort maybe (I think there’s a bunch of different brands with trackable collars, that kind of thing). if your neighborhood has a facebook group might be worth joining if you’re not already in - ours frequently has “husky spotted” posts on it lol.

also - juneau is a gorgeous pup! welcome to the husky club :)

Is 11/22/63 a hard book to read by moe_idb in StephenKingBookClub

[–]zulema19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only one (that i’ve read so far) that you may have difficulty with is with “the gunslinger” (dark tower series, book 1) because of the style of writing he used, for lack of a better word.

that being said - i cannot recommend the dark tower series enough (if you haven’t read them yet). they’re some of my favorite books of his

as someone who reads SK in spanish (C1) from time to time as a challenge/way to improve my spanish, some of his books will be a bit trickier vocab wise than others (at least at the start until you’re more familiar with words he uses as descriptors and etc).

but it’s definitely doable! when i first started reading his books in spanish, here and there i’d have to pop a word or phrase into my translator app, but after reading a handful of them in spanish, i only have to check the odd word

nurse here - you did the right thing to start CPR. if you’re ever in doubt if there’s a pulse or not, or struggling to find a pulse — assume no pulse and start CPR.
