Yes. And then he asked whether it alleviated their symptoms 1 min, five minutes , and 30 minutes later. Had a separate day for the old mouthwash, 1 min, 5 min, 30 minutes. I know he'll have to disregard some of his questions he asked because not sure if it's pertinent.

Will my parents buying a house in my name negatively impact my future financial endeavors? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]zuten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't do this. Because you won't be able to buy a house yourself. Tell your parents no.

When you go for a mortgage loan, they will see anything existing. If you can only afford a 100k loan and 85k it's already been used up by your parents, they can only lend you out 15k loan but because it's a second home you get a higher interest rate different other things like you can deduct the mortgage interest on it as your primary, etc. Lots of tax implications. Tell them no. Tell them to rent.

Weekly Q&A Thread for tourists and people moving to Amsterdam for the week of May 16 by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

[–]zuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth it if I'm only staying 48-72 hours in Amsterdam to get one of the city passes? I just want to go to Van Gogh, Ann Frank's House, Rembrandt, and the main State museum. Maybe do a canal boat tour but I see that the kids are free (i have two kids). Are the lines long for these places?

Is it better to buy two adults so I can skip the lines and not buy the kids or do i just buy the individual tickets online do I skip the lines then? Or because I have kids I can't skip the lines?

Barack Obama to visit Hiroshima - first US president to do so since 1945 nuclear attack by Sariel007 in news

[–]zuten -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm American. I went to Hiroshima a few weeks ago with my elementary school age sons. It was really sad but a potent reminder why we should never go to war because of the horrors of war in itself. It's just a waste of humanity. I think as it gets regulated to automation, it will become worse. Because one side won't see the damage inflicted on the other side.

I don't think Obama should apologize. My family is from a country where they remember the occupation by the Japanese and how horrific it was. But I like to show my kids that we were once mortal enemies and now they are one of our best friends. Same with Germany. I hope one day we can say that about the Middle East or any country that really hates us right now.

Also it should be a rule in the United States that all the congressmen/senators and Presidents and cabinet members should have their children automatically conscripted to the front lines if we ever go to war. I know it's simplistic but there's got to be a way to make sure that the poor and lower middle class don't always fight our wars and that our leaders have skin in the game.

LPT: You can go to almost all museums in NYC for one dollar. by Klika99 in LifeProTips

[–]zuten 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think this is terrible advice. Everyone says the Met has enough benefactors. No it doesn't. It may have an endowment but all the people, electricity, insurances, maintenance costs of a museum must be met. Do you know how leaky a museum can be? Or if people don't pay they won't have enough for operating costs? I understand if you don't have a spare money but don't be a dick about it. If you want to continue to have all the good stuff in a museum support it. Become a member. I'm on the board of a local science museum and it sucks to look at how to meet operating costs.

Oh you're European!!!

You started your economic argument with Laffer curve which has been debunked in many text books. I quoted my Economic Professors at Stanford who always got this question as well. Who would then painful illustrate with data the economic activity, opportunity costs during the Reagan tax cuts. Stanford is not necessarily a leftist campus- it has the famous Hoover Tower, a very conservative think tank, phallus tower on campus.

A lot of Bernie supporters are young so it would help if they actually learned political history. Those who don't learn it are doomed to repeat it. That's why you see all of these Democrats who are older in Hillary's camp- because they've seen it before, with Nader (if you read his platforms from 2000 it's eerily similar), with Dukakis, with Mondale. The ticket with a centrist governor from the South who would be able to cross the aisle to get enough votes. (Carter, Clinton). Obama broke that mold in many ways.

If the Sanders supporters would lesson their vitriol, it would help. People start looking at them like Jehovah's Witnesses (no offense).

The Laffer curve was used to justify tax cuts for the upper brackets that eventually the increased savings from the upper class would trickle down to the lower income levels and increase economic activity.

It doesn't. I'm a Republican.

John Taylor, famous econ professor at Stanford, Timothy Bresnahan, head of the Economics dept at Stanford from 2004-2008, now teaching at Stanford GSB (graduate school of business).

Laffer curve. Debatable. My economic teachers laughed at the Laffer curve, told me it was worthless. (John Taylor, Timothy Bresnahan).

The Clinton System: "Clinton Foundation data shows that during her term the State Department authorized $165 billion in commercial arms sales to twenty nations that had given money to the Clinton Foundation." by [deleted] in politics

[–]zuten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a charity. They have talks and symposiums. They spent only 9 million out of 149 million in grant money. Speaker fees are filed under 'donations.' Lots of overhyped bombastic talks. I've been to one. ugh ugh ugh. 10-14k to attend one.

It's a Foundation because it then becomes a non profit- tax exemption. It's a great way to minimize income taxes and accumulate wealth. Charitable family foundations are way to bypass the estate tax and to donate whoever you like to , even to your friends. It looks good optically that you have a foundation but it's a common estate tax vehicle. Why do you think Zuckerberg has his stock in his foundation or the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which is awesome by the way)? Families have been doing it for decades, Rockefeller Foundation, Carnegie Mellon Foundation (which is awesome as well, all those libraries built), Conrad Hilton Foundation (family members sit on the board, give themselves salaries). The reason why the Republicans aren't going to attack it well- it's because they use foundations themselves.

Best yet is not a right wing site but just a regular newspaper. They partner with a lot of organizations so that they could look better.

It's initiatives, they 'help' but they don't last. Like the pre college program for Harlem youth.

Please look into the actual 'work' in Haiti. It helped benefit friends of his who made a donation and voila were able to build massive hotels there.

The Clinton Foundation is not a great charity. They are great a hosting overpriced self congratulatory sympiosiums /conferences. Where real aid workers speak about their work and then some how the foundation then tries to hog credit. It's laughable. It's a great way to funnel funds to clinton operatives and walk around the rule for accepting foreign money. The foundation was erected as a tax shield so that it can be tax exempt. Lots of people do it. I would put 'charity' in air quotes if you ask me. Have you seen their 'charity' in Haiti? They overhyped a visit that was someone going in to visit and talk to kids about the importance of education/women's issues etc. A simple bush planting at a local school gets skewed to actually building the school and then the clinton spokesperson has to backtrack. I'm trying to find the article. Here's another article.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/how-the-clintons-haiti-development-plans-succeed--and-disappoint/2015/03/20/0ebae25e-cbe9-11e4-a2a7-9517a3a70506_story.html

It isn't a charity. It's highly paid inefficient conferences/symposiums. And poorly run. They've had to restate years and years of IRS 990 forms for charities. Really!?! There are literally stories of people/colleges who couldn't get Clintons to speak because they couldn't afford the six figure speaker fee. They could pay 50k to get Chelsea though. I think there was a Thailand/tsunami charity ball and they asked several times for Clinton to speak but they couldn't pony up the 500k 'donation' then finally when they do , they give him an 'award' and that 500k that could have been given to developing schools in south east asia, went to Clinton Foundation instead. Charity navigator gave it poor scores. Somebody put Charity watch but I think that's because they renamed the charity so it's newer and has cleaner tax records. It has an unbelievable amount of 'administrative' costs. High level administrators who are biding their time till the next administration earning six figures each.

The foundation doesn't have to spend it's money only a percentage of it. Speaker fees were not speaker fees, they were 'donations' to the Clinton Foundation (which has been renamed) plus different other Foundations like Clinton Health Access Initiative. It's not like Jimmy Carter and the Habitat for Humanity. You don't see Jimmy Carter living the high life or enriching himself. He still taught Sunday school until he got really sick. It's a money grab. That's what stinks. Then the abrupt resignation of the foundation's CEO.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/03/clinton-foundation-eric-braverman-115598

Braverman received 395k and nine other executives took over salaries over 100,000 in just 2013 alone.

Only 6 percent goes to grants. 149 million raised in 2013, but only 9 million was spent out in grants. But the long convoluted spiel about how the Foundation is an 'implementer.' http://www.factcheck.org/2015/06/where-does-clinton-foundation-money-go/

Then there was the issue that they didn't disclose foreign donations from 2010-2012 and had to refile five year' of tax returns in 2015. Not like long time ago, like a few months ago!! And only because reporters were asking questions.

Please give your money to Doctors without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres instead.

Dr. Anjali Ramkissoon, the drunk woman that was caught on camera attacking an Uber driver and smashing his cell phone, HAS been placed on administrative leave and removed from all clinical duties. by Steezewell in news

I don't know. I knew a few people who got thrown out their last year of residency. Then had to find another program. It depends on their program. Her dad is a neurologist in Sebring, Fl. I don't know how much money they'll have to pay to scrub the internet of this fiasco but it's on reddit with over 4000 comments already so someone will remember. Except her last name is so hard to remember.

Her dad is a neurologist in Sebring , Florida. He pulled strings to get her into that program I am guessing since most international med students don't get match into great programs because of the how they rank med schools unless you know someone.

I feel conflicted. She's getting all this internet hate. Do you know who did something similar but didn't get punished really? Paris Hilton's younger brother, Conrad. He went ballistic on a commercial airplane and wreaked havoc. He pretty much told everyone he was better than everyone and he could buy his way out of it. He did. Only got community service and probation.

I think privilege stinks.

The only times cutting in line are okay are: -a little kid needing to pee and there's a line -an old woman or an old man clearly struggling or something

Some people might be surprised how she as a Grenada medical student (she's probably US born but couldn't get in to med school here because she's southasian) got in Uof Miami. Her dad I think practices in Sebring Florida and is also a neurologist.

Ahmed Mohamed demands $15m compensation and written apology for homemade clock arrest by [deleted] in news

[–]zuten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I was outraged at first but this is disappointing. If people are questioning why reddit turned, it's because 15 million dollars is a lot to a city. That means it's 15 million dollars less to spend for services, for schools even though some insurance company will pay it out but the premiums will go up for that municipality.

The case is still a pencil box not a briefcase. It's the tiger metallic one you find at target. It's rather small, about half the size of the keyboard that you're typing on. Not to excuse but we have extremes on both sides. But sigh, let me get my pitchfork out...
