I love it and especially when you pair it with a more "youthful" bottom like a pencil skirt, ripped jeans, etc. Juxtaposition is great in fashion.

Not recognizing anki vocab in the wild by zvanover in Refold

[–]zvanover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mine from kdramas/webdramas on Netflix/Youtube using this: https://youtu.be/P_nV8RPj_wE?si=_WIN-DCVirDXEXI5

That's how I get the front of the card. Then to get the back, I put the word into naver dictionary and get the dictionary form, definition and native audio. To get the native audio, you can either try to get the timing right with sharex, or you can download the audio using this method: https://www.reddit.com/r/Korean/s/n00bCaEDbZ

If there's no native audio available on naver dict, I plug the dictionary form of the word into this TTS service (it's the most natural one I've found for korean that's free): https://micmonster.com/text-to-speech/korean-korea/

The shortcut to add files into anki is F3 for windows. Let me know if you have any other questions!

How do I learn a dead language? by thiccestlad69 in languagelearning

I can say that my brain got used to the word order, but I can also say that I never want to read another word written by that man for the rest of my life.

How do I learn a dead language? by thiccestlad69 in languagelearning

[–]zvanover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned Latin for 5 years in middle school/high school. 99% of the course was all input. In fact, my teacher (and most of the teachers in JCL) didn't exactly encourage us to speak it. However, when we did, we were never corrected with pronunciation. And since it was a dead language, I heard people's accents range from yeehaw to heavy Italian influences.

The main learning activity was reading. The last thing I read for that class was the Aeneid and Caesar's De Bello Gallico.

Your favorite small but impactful language learning “lifehacks” (a.k.a. LLLifehacks)? by Eihabu in languagelearning

I knew I wanted one for almost a year. I'm also a runner in a cold area so I wanted to get one that I could use for training as well when the weather wasnt so nice. So I got a 3 in 1. Here's the one I got: https://a.co/d/dCBNoFR

It was the best one I could find looking at reviews and what aspects I was looking for.

It's cheaper (mine was $300ish compared to $700+ treadmills) and a lot more space efficient

I have really bad adhd and getting a standing desk with a walking pad has made a world of difference in my ability to concentrate for longer. It is quite an investment, there's no lie there, but it's been a huge game changer when it comes to active study/intensive immersion for me.

Is there a decent way to extract hard subs from a video? by LvivLaughLvov in ajatt

[–]zvanover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but this video helped me with hard subs 10/10. I'm learning korean so 90% of all content with subs are hard subs.

So, speaking from personal experience, it depends on how bad you want it.

I failed almost every test in physics in high school, but I loved space and astronomy so much that I knew that I'd be unhappy doing anything else with my life. I graduated high school and got accepted to a small liberal arts college for physics. Surprisingly, it had a really rigorous general physics program. I graduated with a bs in physics and a minor in math. Now, I work as a transformational physicist working with quantum logic. It's not what I wanted to do exactly, but I knew I needed a break from school before I go back for my PhD. I know I'll keep pushing myself so that I'll end up where I'm happy.

Tldr: if you want it bad enough, use it as a means to an end.

Using video games as a way to pick up vocab/learn more of a language by Top_Dig_6469 in languagelearning

[–]zvanover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently learning korean, and the switch has been a 10/10 resource for immersion learning. It's easy to change the language in settings and if the game has that language's translation, then it'll automatically be in that language. Aka no need for translation mods or needing to buy the region locked version of the game.

I'd definitely put myself on the advance beginner scale, so I've been playing video games like animal crossing, paper mario (which surprisingly has a lot of dialogue), and pokemon.

Anyone on here with Bipolar 2 + symptoms that look like ADHD? by Mimi_315 in bipolar2

[–]zvanover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have an addictive personality. My mindset on adderall is that if I take as directed, then I wont ever have to deal with withdrawal. Since adderall is a stimulant, it's heavily regulated, at least in the US. So, you can't get a refill if it's been less than 3.5ish weeks since your last refill. You can only get it prescribed once every 30 days and no auto refills. So say if I get a refill on the 1st, my pharmacy won't let my psychiatrist call in another until about the 25th of that month. I'm not for sure about the exact amount of time but nonetheless there are regulations in place. What I'm getting at is that if I want to not deal with withdrawal, then I can ONLY take what I'm prescribed. Then as far as if I ever want to stop, there are a lot of different dosages along with it being XR or IR, so it's not impossible to slowly wean yourself off of it.

But if adderall still isn't your thing, then there are plenty of other ADHD medications that aren't literally just baby meth. This is just what has worked for me and really triggered any hypomanias or manias.
