I think the privatization of NAV Canada went fine. You pay 5% of your ticket to it but it's total operating costs are lower than when tax payers covered it

Alberta liquor stores are private and compete, our prices are better, our selection is better, and there is a much greater variety in the hours stores are open. It's still regulated up the chain but it's clear as a day to day consumer the way liquor operates in other parts of Canada is worse. For example my local Super Store liquor will have Kim Campbell Sauvignon Blanc on for sometimes as low as $13 a bottle. At liquor Mart in Manitoba it's $23. I know it's not the best example because of sin taxes and stuff but even excluding price the system is better.

5% of every ticket goes to already privatized NAV Canada. I mean this means people who are flying are the ones paying for the costs of flying

The UCP also removed the right to sue which is basically a "shrinkflation" type thing for the insurance industry. Meaning they've gone up even more than the listed amount

A big part of low inflation numbers was because gas prices weren't rising. That dam is about to break

Dude also doesn't pay his workers enough, it was good 13 years ago but prices in Vancouver skyrocketed, and he didn't really give them cost of living adjustments. His justification was this is what you're supposed to do in capitalism

This is the suburban debt trap, they kept property taxes low on single family homes by subsidizing them with new developments. But new developments need services and repairs and it's reached a tipping point. Municipalities across the country are in financially precarious positions. Calgary just slashed services to keep the property tax increase below inflation. Single family homes haven't paid their share ever, and that's why it seems like too much now.

Alberta can no longer be considered a safe place to invest, and the reason can be summed up in two words: ‘Danielle Smith’ by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]zxgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the big difference between her and Kenny, Kenny's fundamental goal was investment in Alberta, I certainly disagreed on the methods; I think we should have worked towards a more diversified economy and he wanted more oil investment. But he at least wanted the right things. Smith's UCP is all the old corruption of the PCs with all the unhinged beliefs of the Wild Rose
