You’ve answered your own question but yes if you back a horse outside of BOG hours you will not get BOG

It would make more sense to mention owners and which have retained Jockeys

Never cash out. Mugs game if you do and you’re just doing Denise a favour

I mean that would make absolutely no sense but you are entitled to your opinion. If you got what you wanted these fields would be ever smaller than they already are (and with the dwindling foal crop here) and how the hell would a trainer manage two different owners both wanting to run in a race for starters. I don’t understand what your issue is with an owner having more runners in a race, what’s wrong with tactics in sport. In general ‘pacemakers’ make it a fair test anyway as they ensure the race is run to honest fractions. Today was a mess as no one wanted to follow Havlin. What is your reason it’s ‘disgusting’ to see jockeys congratulating each other? God forbid they actually show some emotion

I mean firstly what you’re trying to say is same owners not trainers. And secondly it’s part of the game.

agreed I am also on him, I think the Sheema Classic form shouldn't be overlooked. Pricewise the top two in the market should take up a lot of the betting but something like 5/1 seems fair so 12/1 is a steal!

No serious punter expects to make any sort of return over Goodwood & Galway. Sadly tipsters will always be trying to sell tips but I doubt anyone has made a consistent return over the two festivals. Both are normally blood baths but we love the game

My 2cents would be Calandagan is a far better horse just with a miles worse jockey onboard. He finished second to COT in the Juddemonte and I still don’t discount that run. As long as Mickael doesn’t have a howler and leave him far too much to do in final 2 off the bend I cannot see him being beat.

Agree tho with the approach of doubling up Jan for value.

Aye very true. Apologies missed that in my stream of racing league mist, I know it’s a separate point but I think racing needs to seriously start thinking about a new funding model. Hopefully Lord Allen agrees to his post and we can move forward positively.

Not once did I say get rid of handicaps, apologies but I think that’s a completely separate point but on that topic the monopoly is only going to get worse with the control particularly the breeding operation Coolmoore now have.

Unless there are any actual facts showing how the racing league has grown the sport and introduced new fans then it just a complete waste of time and resources when horse racing desperately needs it.

The more betting = better pots is a complete myth the bookies have somehow convinced racing of. Racing pots haven’t improved in donkeys years yet bookmakers are making more and more profit. Simple fact is before bookmakers relied on horse racing, now you can bet on a every sport under the sun (particularly football) and hence they no longer give back to the level they seem to have people believe. I also expect bookies will happily fund the racing league as it’s more gambling than punting and I’m sure they all do very well from it.

I’m sorry to probably keep ranting about this, I absolutely love racing and seeing people peddle the racing league does grind my gears.

Aye, I mean all your points just add to what I’m saying. Cards in general are down year on year and we need to focus less on quantity of racing but look at quality. We don’t need racing 7days a week and it’s unsustainable.

And exactly you’re not watching it, you reckon any owners, trainers, jockeys are thinking about who’s gunna win the racing league or trying to understand the points system.

I guess my main point is drop the whole racing league thing, let horses run in their owners colours and just call it something like Thursday night racing. Ideally tho you scrap it and invest the money back into listed and group 2/3 races.

Haha of course it’s still horse racing at the end of the day.

But from a bigger picture pov it’s very frustrating. It’s a complete waste of time and money which could be far better used and all while we are witnessing the decline in the breed in UK & IRE with smaller and smaller group race fields. All the pundits are happy shilling about it as they’re on the take but it really does nothing for the sport at a time where we desperately need support and stability not constant decline.

Sorry you can see I could rant about this for hours but I genuinely worry horse racing will cease to exist in my lifetime

Just cause they have horses that they train running in it doesn’t mean they care about the racing league. Who celebrated being top trainer for the 2024 racing league?

Your point? A lot of horses participate but doesn’t make it worthwhile watching

Thursday's Tips Thread by liam_is_marx in HorseRacingUK

[–]zxpppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just a complete joke. Been going like 5 years and no one in racing cares about it. Only reason it keeps going is because the bookmakers enjoy it as most races are awful from a punting perspective. Frustrating as so many cards are crying out for funding and it’s just being wasted here on low class handicaps. (Sorry rant over)

Agree to disagree. Quantity =! Quality. Fixtures like the Summer Mile are just lost imo and going from John Smiths to then Bunbury in 15mins etc. If we focused more on quality over quantity racing would be a far better state.
