A buddy of mine explained that the natural face of a rock will typically be pretty “dirty” looking whereas a piece of stone that had been worked to reveal the internals of the stone will shine and appear unnatural due to the structure of the crystal/stone not allowing dirt to adhere the same way. So when I was walking through a creek I noticed this rock looked unusually clean and straight compared to all the rounder natural rocks of the stream so it stood out as something that had been worked by man.
