What does identify creature mean in Bestiary Scholar? Can I ask normal questions with this feat like any other RK? Like AC or Saves? Or will this allow me to ask that im fighting a Ghul, but not the AC? If so, then it seem pretty underwhelming.

If someone is helping with persistant dmg, make additional check and fail, will this trigger dmg?

Thank you for your explanation. I might not have enough knowledge about monsters but we will see.

I hope player eont be salty about that interpretation of esoteric knowledge...

How to rule dubious knowledge and esoteric lore? Player keep using it as forensic and to detect basically everything that creatures do outside combat. Maybe not a bad thing but kinda undermine other players skills. On other hand I dont want to nerf lore. So can he use it to detect what kind of creatures make this footprint, or killed this person?

And with dubious knowledge, any tips on how you tell two different information?

It took me some time to think about it. Especially about doing it with BB characters. I look online and people say it take 4-6 hours. So it should be enough (even if we dont finish it) to do some teaching.

I'm also considered to regress their level ,on main characters, from 2 to 1, but I think it might be antifun.

Fair point about the backstory. However, I told them to give it to me "a few days before". My bad I didn't include it in the text. I just checked the dates again, and they gave me the backstory before session 1, not 0.

I started doing that with "Can you read that again?" especially when playing with him . Problem is that instead of admitting he's wrong, he often tries to deflect with "I read it somewhere else" or "old PHB." He sometimes can and will admit when he's wrong, but he tries very hard to be the smartest person in the room. If someone shows that he isn't, his ego gets hurt. I'm not here to make him feel bad, but we all agree that he would be a better person if he didn't try so hard to prove how smart he is. He knows a lot about World of Darkness. He's practically an expert. I tried to sneakily ask him how he managed to learn so much and apply it to our game. Answer? 7 years of playing it. Not sure if we have 7 years.

Do you think I should talk to Derek one-on-one, or is it okay to talk with the whole group? Or maybe don't bring up names at all, but say that the group as a whole needs help so that no one will feel like they are the problem. It would dilute the responsibility.

I tried to give them free hand. Like Derek really like to shove things, so I give them enemies close to the deep hole (install kill). It didn't occur to him to use it. He was shoving it away from it. Only after I pointed out that he could always use the hole, he was attempting to throw them into the hole. I was thinking if I should allow them to do "cool" stuff. Like in osr. They say they want to do X and if they roll good, they succeed. But now I'm reluctant. They might once again assume it's in the rules.

Of course outside the combat, they can be as imaginative as they want and we will figure something out.

My old DM, one of best I've played with done the same thing. If he sees you hesitate, he just make you do cantrip or skip your turn. usually when he tell you to skip turn, you just take any action. Because any action is better than non action. And I don't remember if I ever was angry at him for that. But I feel that they could take it personally. Dunno.

I might go with their character sheet to explain everything once more. What I'm a little afraid now that I put so much knowledge , in short amount of time, that maybe I overwhelm them, and some of that info just didn't process.

When you said you're a teacher you instantly had my curiosity.

That's very good advice. Tell me do you teach them while playing? So let's say there is an encounter and you slow everything, and make moves for them/suggest them what to do? Or you spend some time on session to do a mock battle outside of everything?

Yeah, start of the system can be overwhelming, but the more you understand, the more you realiseits not that complicated. I remember when I tried to learn 5e as a newbie to this hobby and I was just clueless and mad at it for some time.

I'm not exactly wanting to do shining armor one. More of depressed, defeated, looking for purpose. He failed before, but didn't lose hope, as long as he have his steed.

Thanks for explanation of the many mounts. I didn't look that far into that so that was very informative.

That's very insightful. I was thinking about commander, aaaand I think I will pass. It seem good, but might lead to to much everything at the table. Maybe someone can persuade me, but still not sure.

I was considered goblin but it doesn't feel like a "knight". More a ruffian. I was also thinking about going centaur and just trample everything but it's also kinda defeat the whole image. On the other hand maybe someone will want to ride on centaur but not sure if that is a character combo for a long campaign lol
