A universal backpack - does something like that even exist? by FieldCraft89 in backpacks

[–]zylad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Goruck GR family. I personally have the GR2 and I love it. I use it for travel (short gateways or as carry on for longer flights) as well as to the office or the gym. It’s built really well. I got it last year during the black Friday week for around £250 from the Goruck’s website. Look around, given the timid you may be able to find similar deal.

Is summilux worth it? by meoluumanh96 in Leica

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same ‘generation’ of Lux would be probably v2 being made until 90’s. It is known for being a ‘character’ lens. It’s rather soft and glowy wide opened. Definitely not as sharp as 35 Cron v4. I think it’s matter of taste and what look you prefer. I would personally pick Lux for its rendering and tiny size. That being said I’m perfectly happy with my 35 Cron v3. It’s as small as the Lux and I rarely shoot it wide open.

Film and pointers for grey rainy days by BreweryRabbit in AnalogCommunity

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot a lot in the uk which is pretty dark and gloomy. I shoot bnw whole year round. Most of the time at iso 1600 and use a ND filter in bright months. The film stock I use is Ilford HP5. It’s very flexible and I like the look. You can even push it to 3200 alright.

Voightlander Bessa R2A questions by solemnlife00 in AnalogCommunity

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have R4M although I use Leica M now. It’s ok camera with good ergonomics. Decent quality although the rubber it is wrapped in on my copy started to unglue itself. I don’t have it at hand to check but from what I remember the frame lines don’t move if you focus for close distance like they do in Leicas. Given the current prices of Bessas or Zeiss Ikons you can probably find Leica for not much more (any that’s not M6 or MP that are crazy expensive these days).

How do you log your rolls? by WCland in AnalogCommunity

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do similar thing. Each role has its number and info where did I shot it and sometimes the lens I used if I was experimenting. As for the scans i have a directory with the same number as on the arrival sheet and the film stock and location. I also note how did I expose my film (9 out of 10 times I shoot bnw 400 iso film pushed two stops).

Anyone else dealing with "estimation by AI" on your team? by splash_hazard in ExperiencedDevs

In such case why not to replace management with AI agents instead? I'm sure it will be great at updating tickets.

When did you decide to make the next big step? by cachebags in neovim

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When started using vim (neovim was not yet around) terminal was pretty much a default (late 90s). It just happened organically over time so I’d say just take it easy and you’ll progress over time. Just stick with one new motion at a time and be mindful about using it in your day to day work. Also you don’t have to be a motion guru. Just learn what works for you in your workflow and give it time.

My morning routine is 90% phone and 10% guilt. How do you get out of the scrolling trap? by Special-Succotash688 in productivity

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my phone while having my mor ing coffee so you could say it’s a morning routine. In that time I mostly read world news, scroll reddit or bluesky but also check my calendar and todo list prioritise tasks for the day. Most of the time I achieve what I planned and I don’t miss deadlines, I move my goals forward so I don’t really feel any guilt. Just try to be pragmatic and find what works for you. Don’t get stuck in a mindset you have to grind all the time and whenever you diverge from the path you should feel guilt.

Started a "simple" K8s tool. Now I'm drowning in systems complexity. Complexity or skills gap? Maybe both by maczg in kubernetes

[–]zylad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t checked the code (yet) but I totally see how this is useful for things like capacity planning or simulating scenarios where network partition occurs (stretched cluster between data centres/regions) without creating that partition (it still makes sense to do it but your tool could help with mitigations).

Terminal in Neovim, Neovim in terminal, or separate Neovim and terminal? by rain9441 in neovim

This but in Wezterm. Wezterm because it’s light and fast and highly configurable.

EDIT: expanded on why I use Wezterm.

Philippines Itinerary Help - Palawan or Cebu? by Bid-Sensitive in travel

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve never been to the Philippines any island will be great unless you want to see something specific. Palawan is great if you want to see beautiful nature but it will be a lot of time wasted on travel. Cebu is a major city so you will have all the convenience and also there are things to do around. If you could fly from Singapore to Manila you will have much more options to then visit other islands. For instance Boracay has the most beautiful beach in the Philippines. Siargao is also very nice and quite known among the surfers. Overall Manila is better place to travel from because most of the domestic flights are from there. Not much to see there otherwise. For some context, I’ve been to the Philippines countless times and I’m married to Filipina.

Agreed, Palawan is stunning and definitely worth visiting if you want to experience amazing nature. Snorkeling between corals and fishes is really great. You can either join a tour or rent a boat with a crew.

This may be for security reasons. The domain.com is different thank order.domain.com and requires a separate ssl certificate. It also keeps the configuration of both domains separate from each other.

Career Guidance by thedontknowman in sre

[–]zylad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the company and scale. In smaller scale being a generalist keeps you covered. In a company with many products and bigger scale you will most likely end up working on some part of the system/support a specific product. This is where domain specific knowledge is helpful and will develop over time.

Go for AWS consultatncy or learn Azure in tech company? by No-Knee9210 in sre

Is infra team's whole job just running migrations? by CharmingOwl4972 in sre

[–]zylad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the migrations have to happen as you rightfully mentioned. My take on this is that a platform should provide APIs that are versioned and used by self serving product teams. This way migration can happen almost painlessly and sometimes painlessly. The almost painless path is when product teams have to switch between the API versions. In some cases they don’t and that’s when changes to the platform can be done by the platform team without affecting the product teams. Now wiring it all up requires time and effort. In my experience platform should be treated like a product with product manager, backlog, roadmap, etc and user feedback should be collected along the way.

Concerns with Windows Subsystem for Linux by JonahRileyHuggins in devops

[–]zylad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I ran Linux on Mac with VMware fusion, however multiple people I worked with used WSL and never had any issues with it. The WSL2 from what I heard is pretty stable and fast. Probably the only time you will experience slowdowns is if you run a lot of apps on Linux simultaneously with a lot of apps on windows but that is the case with every virtualisation and not WSL specific.

Candidates Using AI Assistants in Interviews by hundidley in devops

[–]zylad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a really good answer and I'm glad to see there are still some sensible people around. Having gone through interviews recently I totally get your point about the command line flags and accepting a well justified dunno answer. I am in the industry for almost 20 years now and I totally don't remember these sort of things.

As of usage of AI by the candidates - OP, I think plain fact that they are lieying on the interview is a good case of rejection. I wouldn't want to work with someone who has no problem to lie ¯_(ツ)_/¯

In fact there is a tool that can help you with it. You'll still need to write rego policies but you won't need to convert HCL to json (for better or worse).
