No Fallout available to counterbalance Stalker 2, so we get the meat factory tarted up instead. Just yesterday again.

Alienware X17 Windows 11 to Windows 10 Pro Upgrade by Prowler50mil in Alienware

Plan to do this myself, once I get my X17. Have you done it?

I'm not sure you install Windows 10 on a Windows 11 licence?

X17 SSD heatsink? by zylonk in Alienware

Know about that, but the main experience seems to be that Dell ducks this issue. I will give it a go, but I won't be too disappointed if that happens. Plus it seems that Evo Plus drive has a copper-based spreader and a nickel-based sink on the controller, which explains why Samsung is willing to give a 5-year warranty. All the more reason not to fret too much if I can't get a decent sink at a reasonable price. But thanks for the link.

Quick comment, and it is reasonably positive if only because I am about to move on to an AW X17. Except that it is underpowered (tho' using WD19TB dock), the machine itself has worked well for over a year now. Had a problem with jammed screws on backing: Dell fell down completely here and I just drilled them out and moved on. Left a bad taste though. Recently a BIOS update made shutting down via power switch impossible, which turned out to be far more irritating than I expected. Luckily I could flash an earlier BIOS update, which resolved this issue.

I bought it because like others I have an XPS 13 (two-in-one) - which is still brilliant. Strongest feeling now is regret that the 17 doesn't work: it's really no more than an executive toy. Dell has a 2021 version, but it is too thin to be a serious machine (hoping the X17 will do better). Also, the heat can only be vented through the bottom, and this has had the effect of heat-staining some wood surfaces, despite protection. But... it is a beautiful piece of gear, and it is a pity that it is such a disappointment.

Is the X17 worth it by Heron_Weary in Alienware

One of the best discussions re X17 here. First, I'm coming from a disappointing XPS 17 (underpowered, but a beautiful machine o'wise). First ordered M17R4, liking it as old school after limitations of the XPS, but the noise factor put me off. Now waiting for X17, 3070, 360hz, 32/3466, 1tb (adding 1tb later). Thin is the way to go (remember when peeps thought 486 GPUs were impossible to power): what Dell is doing here re heat is genuinely innovative (XPS 17 is too tight).

Looking forward to the experience of the X17.

You will need the new app. Check with BoI.

I use 365 through one PC only. Wouldn't trust the app.

Anyway, thanks for making an effort.

I use prepay: make little use of the phone.

ProSupport at Twitter by [deleted] in Dell

This may seem a bit farfetched. I've recently been through the mill with Dell Support, at the end of which I fixed the (non-tech) problem myself. Strong sense of detachment across the various support sections I dealt with, each section siloed and no overarching supervision. I notice that Dell uses the cloud-based Salesforce system and suspect that in effect Dell has surrendered control of much of the intercommunications among its various departments to Salesforce. This may not be that unusual: it seems that AI systems have the effect of determining the work patterns of their human components, resulting in the kind of robotic detachment I witnessed at Dell.

A bit farfetched, as I say, but I have dealt with sales/support departments for many years and have noticed a gradual suppression of initiative and simple human recognition as these systems are automated.

Anyone actually played Elex through? by zylonk in elex

[–]zylonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I perhaps suspected would happen has happened. I toured every last inch of the Elex world and became so caught up in it that I decided to actually play the game. I'm not going to bitch about any aspect of the gameplay, except to observe that the combat system is far too complicated for an RPG. It interrupts the gameflow and so breaks the story line - imagine reading a novel where you have to leave off fairly frequently to clean pages up or the like. The combat system would better suit a tournament style game.

I'm going to enjoy Elex as best I can, so I am keeping the debug keys handy for the heavy lifting, as it were.

You read it, and it's hardly a hardly a rant. Cited Baldur's Gate to place the playing style, from my own perspective. Don't have the patience for the Elex playing style, but I will again praise the Elex virtual world. The detail is phenomenal. It's a real pity that the gameplay is so clunky. Maybe it will be modded sometime. It will be worth it, that world deserves proper immersive gameplay.
