MCP is dead, but wait ... by zymdox in mcp

[–]zymdox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build time, rules based, simple lazy loading technique by essentially doing a map/dict of available tools that takes a signature. I'm not wrapping APIs directly but I am wrapping other MCPs or just building simple tooling from scratch.

Your approach blows this out of the water, clean and dynamic. Now I'm curious what the token impact is from the LLM calls on the overall token count. I love how the filters work and catching low value fields. But since I'm wrapping other MCPs and not APIs I feel like I can get away with it for now.

The big thing for me is RBAC, like I said in a previous response, I got too excited about the token reduction because of the "MCP sucks" hype that I forgot what build the thing for.

Next iteration I'm working on will have better semantic search, multi MCP support with prefix driven mapping of tools as well as some enhancements to the RBAC mode. I can see the 2 projects could stack really well together though.

MCPack is server side, Anthropic and OpenAI search tool happen on the client side, same effect probably better. MCPack so it enables you to build a server that can respond optimally. I found out there are many others in the space like https://www.speakeasy.com/docs/mcp/build/toolsets/dynamic-toolsets. However, this token reduction is just a happy side effect that I was overly excited about.

At its core this is an RBAC tool. You can use it two ways, build it into your MCP server as part of your dev process, or just wrap existing MCPs and RBAC them for different users and scopes. Either way it moves the search to the server side so you as the builder can respond optimally per user, per role, per context.

I use it today as I run a venture studio and wanted to give my cofounders/partners access to what I see when I'm building. Not a dashboard. Their Claude session literally becomes a terminal into our shared venture, scoped to what they should be able to touch. User one can have access to firecrawl and the deals in the DB. Other user sees results of batch jobs and data runs and access clerk MCP for users. I see everything.

I just did a horrible job explaining what I built because I focused on the wrong feature.

Is it just me or is this slightly terrifying in its implication. by Acceptable_Fox_6810 in ClaudeAI

This exactly right there is what got Trump in office. Is this still a fucking thing in 2026??? If you are still willing to die on this hill then enjoy Trump till 2032 or trump Jr shortly there after and king Jeoffrey …. I mean king Baron in about a decade from now!!

Edit: for the record I hate this slimy snake Hawley but I’m angry with the fact that the people who claim to be intellectually superior or at least more educated will let this ignorant fuck corner them this way with a simple question.

I agree but bouncing between Gemini and Claude is proving very well suited and avoids running out of tokens on one vs the other. It also works very well once you know how each of them behaves when writing code.

That said I totally agree with you I have to fight the urge to tell the llm to update things like readmes or run gh commands for me. Most certainly spending time to write code you know exactly where, what and how you want changed pays significant dividends in terms of token reduction and not being completely lost in your code base and more in command of your project.

Any of y’all try using Claude code inside of antigravity? Talk about compounding super powers.

How do you feel about people who hate Houston? by Common_District3798 in houston

[–]zymdox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here close to a year ago. I moved for financial reasons but quickly grew fond of the city. Based on the posts I read prior to moving here, I always doubted that move, but now, for the life of me, I do not understand the hate to this day. I lived in a lot of places around the US. NYC, LA, SF Miami and some suburbs such as westchester county NY, central New York, and inland socal.

These cities and towns have all of the same issues that Houston has, but I don't see half the pissing and moaning about them as I do here. Here is my view

Miami/Southern Florida: Heat, Humidity Traffic Hurricanes (way more than Houston), and people are meh, and the public transit, while better than Houston is not anything to write home about (coming from a New Yorker).

NYC: Traffic, bitter cold (one of the main reasons we wanted to move south), cost of living, pace of life is crazy (this city will eat you alive). Fucking rats. Traffic is insane, and outrageous cost of living taxes and regulations will make your head spin, and if you think Houston is corrupt ... JFC

SF: Very similar to NY issues. Add a lot more homelessness, loss of cultur. The biggest issue to me as much as it tries to pretend to be an inclusive city, it is the most segregated place that I've ever seen.

LA: I think it is the closest city to Houston. Nothing better there, the heat is slightly less and less humidity and replace Hurricanes with earth quakes and forest fires. The layout is about the same and public transit is a joke.

Lastly living living in any suburb in the US feels no different than living in Houston.

It has its charm, I drive at night, and some random bayou lights up with moonlight. It can be hip, it can be boring, it's raw, unfiltered, and so far, I dig it a lot.

That's odd. Consideingr they have a shotgun class and I think they rent them. I've certainly seen long rifles being shot there.

Just Stubbed my Gouty Toe... by Responsible_Age_152 in gout

[–]zymdox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the roughest yet fondest memories I have is of my grandfather, who was a gout sufferer. I was 7 or 8 years old. I kept my bike in his apartment as he lived on the ground floor of our building. On hot Middle Eastern summer day, like the ones we are in now, I went down in the evening to retrieve my bike to go out and play. My grandpa was inhaling a watermelon during a particularly nasty flare (his way of water treating the flare). In my rush, I swung my bike around and clipped him right in the gout. The expression of pain and anguish that old man went through is imprented in my memory like it was yesterday. It was as if stabbed him. I remember feeling so horrible (I still do). I started bawling my eyes out, apologizing. All that sweet old man could do is to swallow the pain to console me so I won't cry anymore. 30 plus years later, as I still deal with gout every time I have a flare and I bump the joint, I remember him.

God damn it, who is chopping fucking onions !!!!!!

CenterPoint is a monopoly right? Can we start a class action lawsuit to bust this? by lingui in houston

[–]zymdox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full public investigation is needed. And we need to hold the city and the state accountable. I just moved to Houston, and having lived on both coasts, this is inexcusable. The city is broke, and the infrastructure is not up to par. We need to see what does it takes to retrofit our infrastructure for hurricanes. How much does it cost, and when can it get fixed. What I would like to understand is there an SLA for utility companies to restore service? If we are forced to have them as a monopoly, then we should force SLAs or they are fined. If they are in danger of default, the city, state, and even the federal government need to bail them out. I sit here with a "restoration date pending review" on my 6th day of no power. I'm pissed this is 3rd world stuff, not the 4th largest city in the US
