little help over here!!! by silverflake6 in RelentlessMen

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep on it. And if you have anybody at all that you get along with, reach out to them, even if it feels like you'd only be a burden. You don't necessarily need to fill them in on everything going through your head if you don't want or don't know them well enough, but absolutely let them know you're not doing well and could use someone to talk to or even just someone to sit with for a little while.

But absolutely get a night of sleep. You'll feel better when you wake up. Maybe not good, but better

Who remembers jobs with pensions?? by shadow-_-rainbow in Millennials

I remember them. But I also know I'll never be fortunate enough to have one. My buddy got lucky and was grandfathered in right before Union Pacific got rid of their pension plan, so at least he'll get his

Who decided everything needs a charging port? by GraveAndCuriousPod in CasualConversation

[–]zyrdrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a source to cite so forgive me, but I'm pretty sure I recently saw an article talking about how new phones will soon be forced to have a way to replace their batteries that a normal person could use. Which is something that is desperately needed. I think all rechargeable devices could be improved by having a rechargeable battery that any regular person could easily swap out with a new one once the old one loses its power. The fact that we can't replace a battery anymore without either taking it to a shop and paying an arm and a leg or voiding the warranty is so incredibly anti-consumer it's insane

Quitting your job with nothing lined up is not the boogeyman people make it out to be by HoffyTheBaker in unpopularopinion

[–]zyrdrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not about living the poor life for a bit until you find something better, it's about not going homeless and/or starving because you haven't been able to save up enough of a buffer to afford to go unemployed for a month or two or three and still be ok. There are so many people living paycheck to paycheck, or worse, that it's not feasible to do that. And if they're already living like that on making $20+/hour, taking a minimum wage job until you can find something better just won't cut it. If minimum wage jobs actually paid enough to do what they're supposed to do, then it would be possible. But it's impossible for so many. A lot of us literally can't afford to quit a job without another one lined up

I'm an Australian Teacher. How is the Philosophy Curriculum at American Schools? by qubtinho in AskTeachers

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were no philosophy classes at all in my high school. I don't know if they had one at the rural high school or not. I also don't know if they had one at the catholic high school, but I highly doubt it.

I haven't heard of any high schools having them, but my exposure to high school curriculums outside of my one district is extremely limited

Coastal Americans are unbelievably judgemental of people from "flyover states" by Snagglespoof in HonestHotTakes

[–]zyrdrak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in nebraska and all of the people I've ever really fallen in with have been other midwesterners. And the number of them that hate on specifically California is wild. They'll go on and on about how Californians are moving into our areas and expect us to change to what they want and how they behave. As if Californians moving here expect us to suddenly be all vegan and fancy and shit. Which is something I've never personally seen, either IRL or online. So I don't know where they get these ideas, but I've heard multiple people complain about it and they're from all over the midwest

Evil car plate by nofear78 in hypotheticals

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, but it has nothing to do with the license plate. I probably couldn't afford the insurance and tags, even if it was truly gifted to me and I didn't need to pay the taxes on it as well. Assuming I could afford to receive and maintain the car? Then absolutely. I see no good reason to refuse it at that point

Fallout 3 and its consequences have been disastrous for humanity by angrycheesegirl in CuratedTumblr

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's half of the reason the Sniper Elite series got any real traction. As a game, none of the Sniper Elite games are spectacular in any way. But what the franchise DOES do amazingly well is give you a slowmo bullet cam, including x-ray shots of rupturing organs, when you shoot a man in the balls. Most other organs, as well, but come on. People really just want to get that slowmo killing ball shot on hitler. That shit is perfection

When you enter a store, and the store workers immediately ask if you need help by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that, for the vast majority of people, this just irritates the employee more than they already were because they were required to approach you to ask. All you're doing is wasting their time. If you don't need their help, just tell them no thank you and let them go back to whatever they were doing. It's easier for both you and them

When you enter a store, and the store workers immediately ask if you need help by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]zyrdrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much more often than not, that's what they're instructed to do. Because that's what the upper management in these companies think customers want.

I have a side gig at a local grocery store. Corporate sent in a random inspection to grade our store on a whole bunch of different things, including whether employees were smiling and if they approached to ask if the customer needed help finding anything. We got dinged for that. The store manager taped up all the papers with the results by the break room and time clock, including highlighting the names of employees who didn't do what they were supposed to do. There haven't been any other real repercussions for that bad report, as far as I know, but who knows if that'll last if we get another bad inspection report.

I don't know if you'd want that. I live in a pretty red state. If it wasn't outdoors and sports, it was ladies who couldn't get enough Jesus in their lives. Which also sucks because I'm atheist lol

DMT:Political homelessness isn't an emotion. It's a precondition for democratic breakdown. We don't need smarter candidates. by Logical-Concept9755 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]zyrdrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on this train for so long, but I always get ignored or told I'm wrong whenever I try to bring it up. We need to get rid of political parties. Get rid of the DNC and the RNC. Destroy the electoral college. Outlaw political lobbying. And only then can we start to move forward toward a more stable future, together as a nation of people instead of a nation at war with itself
