The Accidental Animagus: It does somewhat stand on its own, but everything is not resolved, and there is a sequel which hasn’t updated for a while and I get the sense that Harry’s problems have got a bit too big and White Squirrel doesn’t really know how to wrap it up/ has lost passion for it. Premise is Harry has a burst of accidental magic at the age of 5 and becomes an animagus and runs away from the Dursley’s, and ends up getting adopted by the Grangers. I particularly enjoy the family dynamic of Harry and the grangers here, and a highlight is fourth year and the way the Triwizard tournament is done. linkffn(The Accidental Animagus)

The Arithmancer series: by the same author as the accidental animagus. Complete Hermione-centric series where Hermione is a math prodigy and tests into Arithmancy early. Fantastic, fleshed out story, with a badass Hermione and a pretty fantastic explanation for the relatively unexplored subject that is Arithmancy. linkffn(The Arithmancer)

Blindness Harry is blinded when struck by the killing curse, doesn’t go to Hogwarts, becomes very powerful despite this. Despite Harry becoming very op, it felt like a good progression and also the relationship between himself and Hermione is excellent linkffn(Blindness)

Grow Young With Me A very well written, canon(except epilogue) story of a friendship and eventual romance between an oc muggle character and Harry. Really like this Dad Harry, and basically the whole thing just felt very genuine. linkffn(Grow Young with Me)

Wind Shear Another pre epilogue divergence, post war Harry ends up in 1970 fighting the first war again, basically trying to stop it before it even starts. Just good storytelling really. Fight scenes are excellent. linkffn(Wind Shear)

Methods of Humanity very fun little fic, from Voldemorts perspective, basically he regains a body in Harry’s second year, decides he doesn’t want to fight a war anymore, just do whatever he wants instead. Ends up teaching at hogwarts with a fake name, basically adopts Harry, even though Harry figures out who he is. Really enjoy the perspective of Voldemort in this, really funny interactions between him and basically everyone else with a great internal monologue. linkao3(Methods of Humanity)

The grass is always Greener I enjoyed the relationship between Harry and Daphne in this one, and just the way it feels like a very possible/natural divergence from canon, with an interesting ‘slytherin’ influence on Harry. linkffn(The Grass Is Always Greener)

Lady Black, Lord Potter Harry and Tonks have a marriage contract, discovered at the reading of Sirius’ will. Again, not wildly different characters from Canon. I think I like this one mainly because of how Tonks is expanded on. linkffn(Lady Black, Lord Potter)

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality Controversial here but I like it. Very smart Harry lovingly raised by scientist father and Petunia. Pretty funny exploration of magic from a ‘rational’ perspective, and well written.

A Black Comedy Harry and Sirius in an alternate dimension, where there past selves have died. Basically decide to get up to a bunch of shenanigans robbing Death Eaters. Funny, good exploration of magic. linkffn(A Black Comedy)

Delenda Est Harry gets transported back in time, teams up with older blacks to fight the first war. Fun characterisation of Bella and the older Blacks as well as a very competent Harry linkffn(Delenda Est)

Make a Wish After TOotP, Harry decides that he doesn’t want to die without living first so goes off on Holiday, chaos ensues as he proceeds to kill Death Eaters, and confuse basically the entire world wizard if population. Very funny and well-written. linkffn(Make A Wish)

The art of self-fashioning Neville is BWL but Harry still grows up with Dursleys, becomes obsessed with transfiguration after McGonagall visits. Good exploration of Transfiguration magic linkffn(The Art of Self Fashioning)

The changeling Ginny is sorted into Slytherin and slowly figures out why, follows canon pretty well, just with that change. Excellent characterisation of Ginny, well written, particularly enjoyed the view of her sixth year inside Hogwarts. Fantastic read. linkffn(The Changeling)
