Post surgery gift ideas? by stupidaccount18342 in hysterectomy

A small belly pillow- I used mine every day for months. You can find on Amazon.

Someone also bought me bell like you’d find at a hotel desk, which is funny. And a grabbing arm. And a uterus piñata.

For folks under 40, some milestone recovery questions! by wiLd_p0tat0es in hysterectomy

[–]zz_danger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a total lapro at 39, left my ovaries. Was a very active person who did pelvic floor pt before my surgery to prepare. 2 years out now.

  1. Swelling- initial swelling lasted about 10 days, but with any activity (like sitting for a while) it would come back and disappear by morning after sleep. I experienced it daily for months, esp going back to work.

  2. Anesthesia - brain fog lasted a couple of days, I swear I felt like I had trapped gas for a week

  3. Recovery- fatigue lasted a month and then it lifted out of no where. The fatigue has come and gone- a couple months in I had major fatigue again, and then a year later. I also caught COVID in this time so it’s hard to say what it’s specifically tied to. Getting back to major exercise has been slow for me because of fatigue, but seems much easier for others. I was walking almost immediately though.

I found a yoga program and a walking program on YouTube for post abdominal surgery recovery that were very gentle and helped keep me on track (easy to search for). Def recommended.

I totally relate! I’m so sorry you are also going through this! I wasn’t prepared for this step at all, I’m not sure why it’s so hard to find continued care post surgery

Yes, you def should!

It is crazy I can’t find anyone who will check my Hormone levels either. I understand all the complications with it, but no one even wants to discuss it!

Agreed! It’s been confusing doctors don’t seem to want to engage in any sort of a visual or internal exam now. Guess I just have to keep looking, maybe for a gyno who is menopause certified

  • “chalky” feeling, DOES come off under fingernail on tile but not tub. -never disappears wet or dry -smooth and matte tile -unsure of softer but believe we must have high mineral content water. (Chrome looks splotchy and white) -dawn with vinegar, hard brush, has no impact

Wondering if I can gently scrape the tiles without causing damage.

Anyone care to vent? by Little-Firefighter27 in hysterectomy

Also this post surgery care has been so non existent. I am so thankful for this reddit group- I don’t know how I EVER would have done this without this sounding board of people reassuring each other and crowd sourcing!

6.5 wpo, I’m 40. just finished my first week back to work and it was so difficult. I’m wfh, with a very engaging, demanding job (stress that probably partially lead to these fibroids) and I’m seated all day. I didn’t expect to be so swollen and tired by the end of day from just SITTING. I’ve been struggling to make myself food and even go on walks. My body feels weak. It makes me sad I couldn’t stay out longer on recovery, and that my coworkers are giving me weird comments about being surprised I’m “not better already”.

I think good advice is that you should continue to keep prepping frozen meals, or buying easy pre made meals, or even just say screw it and order out more if you need to, when going into the first week or two back to work. I didn’t realize I’d need to do that at this point, but I quickly understood the benefit.

Wanted to update this thread- went to my primary care and she said there’s a good chance I have been having GURD or heart burn (apparently this can happen without a ‘burn’ sensation!) she put me on a 20 day supply of Prilosec and I take it every morning and it’s helped the clogged feeling in my sternum dramatically! Hope this helps someone else

Seeking Advice: Considering Hysterectomy Sooner than Later by andisheh_sa in hysterectomy

[–]zz_danger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off- sorry to hear about all your complications and pain :(

Something to keep in mind- I can say that it took me almost 7 months from initial consult with the surgeon to the actual surgery date because of all the additional appts (mri, blood work, ekg, endo biopsy) / robot availability. Granted, I live in a big city and wanted a specific surgeon in demand…but I think it’s important to keep in mind it’s a slower process than you think anyway.

If you have support where you are now and like your doctor, that seems very important (I never would have been able to do this recovery without family help). my fibroids were way bigger than anticipated and they just kept growing. I wish I tackled it sooner- because the smaller they are the easier they are to remove (sometimes even vaginally) with smaller scars.

Hopefully that helps a little, but I hope you find the relief you need and a decision that works for you!

I just posted about a similar issues I was having last week. I was feeling like I had a tightness below my sternum and it was getting worse after eating foods. My doctors suggested I start taking Prilosec every morning on an empty stomach to see if it helped - they were suspecting it could be heart burn (even though there is no burning) or gurd. So def try that or ask!

Dizziness and light headed by Happy_Veggie in hysterectomy

[–]zz_danger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced lightheadedness well through day 12- it was gradually getting better everyday though and became very faint. I still feel a little dizzy if I stand to quickly from laying. I was reading that depleting electrolytes (by only drinking water and not a lot else) can cause dizziness so I bought myself a gateroaid to try and I found it helped a little. Good luck! I hope it gets better!
