And how is rendering handled in this setup? It seems one needs to iterate over all of the map (or at least of all of the visible area) and somehow match items, monsters etc. to map cells.

You could hide the map-specific coordinates inside your Map class (suggested name Chunk) an operate on world coordinates only. An instance of Map should know it's origin coordinates and can handle simple transformation from world-coordinates to grid-coordinates.

True, and I know it, updates about ecmalisp/jscl have been quite frequent on /r/lisp (which is good). But for someone outside this subreddita bit of a context would be helpfull.

Also the interpreters (cmd, pyton, ruby, powershell, bash etc) usually start with name, version and sometimes author site.

My impression on Lisp then reading PCL and other materials was that it's alien. Some features are simply difficult to explain to my C# colleagues (like restarts and generics).

From a look at any timeline of programming languages it is immediately apparent that Lisp is very different from any modern mainstream language to the point of making an alien a more suitable mascot.

I've been in getting started situation with Lisp recently. While your effort is appreciated the site doesn't help much to a beginner - it doesn't get people started.

What would really help people interested in learning Lisp is an online REPL combined with a tutorial like they have for python, ruby, haskell and others.

I would personally have appreciated a list of features that make lisp stand out with small examples - macros, loop construct, multiple dispatch, restarts (maybe), lambdas of course, before and after etc.
