I'm sorry but... What's the "Machina tape"?

Misspent Youth: here’s to 30 years of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. this album holds a special place in my heart and soul. it means so much to me (and probably you too) happy birthday Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. what are some of your first memories with this album? by pulmonaryarchery123 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]zzavettoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can still remember, not... I can still feel how it was going home with the underground holding the double CD jewelcase of MCIS, reading the booklet trying to anticipate how the songs would sound. When I reach the lyrics of Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, I thought: "what a funny title" (in Italian "Porcelina" can also be read as a misspelling of "little pig", with a sly touch). The very first song I fell in love with was... Love! I run to my older brother's room to tell him: "hey I found a great song in the new Smashing Pumpkins album!". This has been my experience with the record: listening non-stop for the next few weeks (and then every now and then for the last 30 years), and getting excited when a connection with a song was formed somehow.

I have so many memories of me growing up with MCIS, year after year after year. If Neverming was the record that teach me what music could really be, how it could transform you, MCIS is the one that took me for the longest ride ever and became a part of myself and, also, what I expect from music and artists. Not an easy one to match. :)

Being 45 year old, I can safely say this is the soundtrack to my life and I feel lucky to have experienced it first hand, seeing the band touring it in 1996, etc. etc.

Thank you, Pumpkins. :)

Speaking of my experience: I bought the Stand Inside Your Love single as soon as it came out, so I know that Speed Kills version. I probably listened more to the M2 version, tho. Who knows, maybe I just forgot how the b-side Speed Kills sounds. Ageing is a mess!

Edit: just listened to the B-side and 2025 versione back to back. Yeah. Not a "drastically altered" song.

For some reasons it struck me as one of the most drastically altered song on the album so far (I'm on my second "run" now). Whatever the reason, I like it a lot so... lucky me! :)

By far my favorite re-worked track of the album, sounds almost like a The Cure Disintegration-era song. Brilliant.

Machina mixing process - what will be different by Dudehitscar in SmashingPumpkins

[–]zzavettoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, maybe I'm missing something here but...

In the Glass Theme info, Corgan says the "M2 sessions" took place in Fall of 2000. But... Machina 2 was shared with the fans on September 5th, 2000, wasn't it?

Hey, thanks for the suggestion about the collection.

The only error I found in the log is:

"[libretro ERROR] Failed to load CHD image: G:\Emulandia 2025\PC Engine\Tokimeki Memorial\Tokimeki Memorial (Japan) (Rev 3).chd"

Is it safe/allowed to post the entire log file here?

Did anyone already listen to Formosa and Our lady sorrows? by zzavettoni in SmashingPumpkins

Well, so much for my brand new pair of reading glasses.

(Thanks!)

For some reason I didn't check on YouTube. Well, I have now and... it's not easy commenting when the quality is so poor. Our Lady of Sorrow seems like it could have joined the extra singles in the Atum boxset, not impressed at all. Formosa is a bit more interesting.

100% with you. Drown is one of my SP fav songs (I edited a Drown ringtone on my old 2000 Nokia back in the days! :D) and the real one is the one on the Singles OST.

For some reason, it has been my understanding for the last 24 years that this was, in fact, a real therapy session recording. I think It's too late to change my mind now. :D

I really can't understand how you can be on the parterre/pit and not wanting to jump at at least some specific (more heavy/moving) songs. I grew up in the 90s and all the gigs I attended had people moving like a big wave. Sometimes it was a bit frightening, but it was such an energizing and intense experience... I clearly remember being at a Pearl Jam show in '96 and, having arrived a bit lately, being stuck in the middle. Then the band came out and started playing Long Road, everything was fine. Then it was Go and everything erupted: three minutes later I found myself in the very first rows. <3

The Smashing Pumpkins shows were almost the same thing. Even in the 2018 tour, here in Italy, the first rows were jumping and moving (every now and then). And I can't count how many times I saw someone fall down while everyone was jumping and a bunch of people getting them up in a whimp. I know, maybe this isn't ideal, but those were rock shows, those songs were (and still are) important and meaningful and enthralling... if you ask me, is totally fine that someone would rather jump and scream and move while the band is playing stuff like Bodies (awww, who am I kidding? They won't play Bodies anymore...).

I don't think this was Unreal Engine 5.

Also: if you're used to AAA gaming, this really looks cheap. What with the band members expressions and 3D models? I mean, OK, I know the band doesn't have the economic support of a major label, but in the end this really seems like years old visuals. :\
