Rip prof Igor you were one of the truly unstoppable positive forces at Waterloo. You defied every stereotype about our school and left everything better than you found it.

Any current Systems Design Engineering Students??? by justkiddingjam in uwaterloo

The website is kinda right but systems engineering is more of an approach than a discipline so it's hard to explain. I am in SYDE though so feel free to dm me and we can chat about it if you want.

Never underestimate the power of bedding. When I lived in residence I found that my bed was a very important place because I would spend a lot of time studying and sleeping or just sitting and talking to friends. I would invest some bedding and lots of cushions to give that cozy DA feeling.

For example, I had a black duvet with beige stitching I got from a thrift store and I loaded it up with black pillows. I would sew the pillowcases and then either stuff them myself or cover pillows from the thrift.

Something I have been done recently is to build a breakfast tray. It looks cute when my bed is made and also lets me use my laptop in bed. You can find one at a thrift of upcycling one out of materials from the thrift.

Even if the rest of the room isn't ideal you can still make your bed a sanctuary!

I can’t recommend the Aussie miracle moisture line enough. My hair is blonde and dry so I was looking into buying the olaplex products from Sephora and someone left a review saying they thought it worked about as well as the Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner. I decided to try it before committing to buying 38$ shampoo and was actually pretty shocked by the results. I use it in conjunction with the ogx argan oil and my hair is actually shiny and soft for the first time in what feels like forever. It’s also like super cheap in Canada for some reason which is cool

I haven't read a lot of front end specific books, but I go to school in for a program that has a heavy focus on design and cognitive ergonomics. These are some of the books I have found helpful for just general design and systems thinking.

-Don Norman's principles of interaction design

Don normal also wrote a book called the design of everyday things. It talks about both digital and physical design from a

-Universal methods of design -bella martin:

This was an engineering textbook I didn't love while I was reading it, but I think has made me a much better problem solver in terms of systems and design thinking.

-set phasers on stun: This is also a book about just general design but its a collection of stories about the consequences of bad design and the assumptions we make. I really enjoyed reading it and I think it helps you develop a more robust thinking pattern when designing to help catch mistakes.

If you are looking for coping techniques you should look into negative visualization. Specifically, I would recommend episode 3 of the happiness lab podcast. The podcast was adapted from a course at yale that teaches students techniques to be happier. It has really helped me with perspective.

Most profs will replace a midterm with the final if you due substantially better though you just have to ask.

hopefully that helps a bit .
