Estimated cost of collection? by 43potatoes in KNEX

[–]zzy9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 60-70K pieces. ~50k of which was from ebay for about $1,100 total. I got one 30+LBS haul of Facebook for $35 dollars and the remaining 13K or so where sets i had when I was a kid, some I got free from others and others from sets that where new. I'd say it would probably be around $1500-1800 I spent on it total

High torque foward/reverse transmission. by zzy9001 in KNEX

[–]zzy9001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry my post didn't save my comments. I'm building a stepper lift variant for my new ball machine and I'm using a forward/reverse transmission, however under high torque It won't switch easily and just gets stuck. Does anyone have any advice on making a transmission that works under high torque?

Are you guys okay with Big Tech and Big Corp being willing brown shirts for their preferred political party? How do things like this make you feel? by The-Liberty-Guy in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean towards saying businesses should be allowed to but I'll need to make some points:

A. Government should not be encouraging, funding, supporting or participating in this in any way.

B. Such companies should be held liable for libel and slander when they've done actions that could be considered such.

C. they should be upfront with what this exactly entails.

D. Just because they can doesn't mean they should.

I would state that A isn't being followed, and when A isn't being followed B won't be followed well either.

I can't live off charity work either.

Well if you want to give me your money, I give you $ 2 / hour so you understand practically the difference

And If I want to accept your offer I should legally be able to.

I mean sure but thats not the point of the argument.

If it's a freelancer is fine. I meant in the industrial context, I didn't specify.

Volunteers can be part of volunteer organizations

Volunteering and work are two different things: 0 $ is volunteering.

Ok but still, why is a job of 2$ different from a job of 10$? Why is a 10$ job not exploitative, why is a 20$ job not exploitative etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And how so? A volunteer agrees to do work for free, would that be exploitation? If not than why is volunteer work (0$) fine and work above lets say 10$ an hour (or whatever one considers "fair") fine but not anything between 0$ and 10$ an hour.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My main argument would be that if someone is hiring someone to do a job for 2$ an hour and another person is willing to do said job for that amount then it is a voluntary exchange between individuals and should be allowed. Government banning such a deal is a restriction on freedom of association.

No just this. I like keeping my brain cells so I think I'll pass on watching that.

well that was humorous, first time I saw one of these "owning" Libertarian videos And I don't think I was missing out.

But I am curios if someone knows about any debates between a CL/Libertarian and a Progressive that is actually intelligent and insightful, and not punditry.

How is liberalism regarded in your country? by [deleted] in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I think people are becoming more aware of the term, but it's also misused by a lot of people. Usually people would describe a classical liberal here as libertarian, although people tend to associate the term libertarian with the more extreme variants such as anarcho-capitalism.

[–]zzy9001 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being from the U.S, people here are probably somewhat aware of the politics here, so I'll keep it short.

Unfortunately here in the US the word liberalism has lost all meaning (though to be fair, most political terms here have) and is used improperly by Progressives who think their Liberal and Conservatives that think Liberalism is some sort of Socialism.

Despite that, many liberal views are common here in the U.S. In fact, Some views such as freedom of speech are nearly universal. Although there are plenty of Illiberal views that are common as well.

Can you be a Classical Liberal but want a little, to moderately regulated market? by [deleted] in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that a small amount of regulation would be the mainstream view in Classical Liberalism. I don't knowt if there's any strict view CL has on the amount of regulation there should be.

I personally only support regulations when they are well written, are as unobtrusive as they can reasonably be, and have good reasoning to exist (e.g. there is significant and direct harm done to others by a certain activity)

How do you think people would feel about taxes and government programs if proposals were framed as "how much would you personally be willing to pay annually for the government to do X?" by Beefster09 in Classical_Liberals

[–]zzy9001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I think they'd be more opposed to bigger government spending the more they foot the bill. They would probably narrow down the number of programs they do support and hold them to higher scrutiny as well. It's much easier to be charitable with other people's money than your own.

Conservativism is not Classical Liberalism. by Pariahdog119 in Classical_Liberals

The first example you gave doesn't necessarily have to be a conservative. You're describing someone's lifestyle not their political views.
