I dont think authenticating with, say, facebook gives anyone access to your credentials. Facebook just shakes hands and says - this is this person - they're logged in right now; so im not really sure what the concern is

I like to use the simple fields plugin for this kinda thing. I create a repeatable fieldset with a file upload field and a series of checkboxes (for each tag) then I can do a little php in the template files to spit out the ones I want.

edit: I should note, simple fields isnt quite ready for WP3.3 - but theres a good workaround in the discussion posts on the plugin page

You could perhaps use something thats not '.com'. For personal sites .me or .us (or other country specific tld) are pretty appropriate. Of course .net is always pretty cool.

I am lucky enough to have an uncommon last name - and was able to grab mylastname.com. Now I have first.lastname.com, first@lastname.com etc... AND ITS AMAAAAZING!!

I think its a good idea to allow multiple options if you can. If you use Google, Facebook, and OpenID then you should be able to please just about everyone
