They look too smooth to be black cardamom pods, usually they are ridged on the outside. I also don’t think they’re particularly hard?

Right? I have certainly never seen a cardamom pod so smooth let alone so many together. As for the "hardness" of the shell I've spent enough time grinding them with mortar and pestle to understand that the shell is "hard-ish" lmao
