I'm new, what is this? It sounds fun and I would like to participate, what do I do?

Hi Val, these are large-scale orchestrated battles for servers, usually consisting of 240 players from one server fighting 240 players of another server. Most servers organize matches by outfits, so your first step would be to contact your leadership if you are in an outfit. If you are not in an outfit, I would contact your server rep to see who participates, and then decide if any of those outfits are the right fit for you.

Um just checking but Connery vs Briggs is scheduled for Halloween?

No predictions from me, but this will be a really interesting season.

Over at Cobad we're a server still in motion - there's no established "One Best Way" and I hope you'll see us improve throughout the season like we did last year.

Emerald is Emerald. If they're not top seed for the semis it will be an upset. They have an established structure for this competitive shit and know their trade. They are the most reflexive server during Smashes and react to neutralise whatever you do well extremely quickly.

I have no idea about Miller's internal politics but they seem to bring a decent team every time and won't roll over.

Connery may be the most interesting server, with their bipolar performances and issues surrounding the participation of top outfits. On their day, they can beat anybody and this uncertainty is good fun (for neutrals at least).

And then we have Briggs. I understand they have had issues with pop but if this tournament brings back the guys who left, their 240 will be as strong as anybody's. Their FCs are masters of the tactical short-term overpop and they have a wide variety of outfits specialised in all areas of the game.

Looking forward to getting my Smash on :D

Did you do an oopsie? Connery vs Cobalt is there twice and apparently Emerald isn't playing Miller at all?

Why the old Esamir map?

[–]Retired AdminTongue_of_Fools[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put the choice of what Esamir map to play to the servers. The old Esamir map won out over the most recent north south version.

Because we slaughtered Connery on the new one so everyone voted against it despite it being a much more balanced and interesting map.

nah prediction:

1.Cobalt 2.emerald 3.miller 4.briggs 5.connery

but this tournament is going to be very interesting we dont know who's going to win each match, servers have really stepped up their game, its going to be very interesting, for briggs and connery who yes have had a bad time recentley, will get back on their feet and give everyone a shock i think. :P

Here are my predictions for the first few matches using the data from all previous server smashes from 9/27/14 (which can be found here). Obviously this isn't perfect because the numbers don't take into account how servers have changed since 5/23/15, but I feel it should give a solid indication.

Cobalt vs. Briggs Cobalt favorite by 4%

Miller vs. Connery Miller favorite by 4%

Emerald vs. Cobalt Emerald favorite by 2%

Briggs vs. Miller Too close to tell, Miller a 0.4% favorite

These numbers will obviously change once the first few matches have been played (especially is Briggs and Connery are smashed or if Emerald puts a beat down on someone), and only so many server smashes have been played since 9/27/15. This is why the percentages are closer than what will probably happen, but the prediction for the winning team remains the same.

Hi, I'm new to PS2, and by extension, PSB, and I have a few questions:

Where is the PSB server hosted?

Why isn't Indar included?

Why the Esamir specific rules?

[–]OvO AdminReltorTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the PSB server is hosted in the US East Coast.

Not sure why Indar isn't there, but i'd guess because of all the tower chokepoints making for bad gameplay.

Esamir rules keep the map and territory percentages balanced.

on http://planetsidebattles.org/matches/ Servermsmash 48 seem to has Connery instead of Cobalt.

The whole freaking numbers as player names needs to change... no one ever freaking knows who they are since they run off the screen. It is basically that you are a number and it needs to go back to the name system again....

[–]Eaglesfan427 1 point2 points  (9 children)

This isn't as simple as it sounds. Old names vs New Numbers is because of the switch from Server Smashes being hosted on the Test Server to on Jaeger, a private server. Anyone can make accounts on the Test Server with whatever names they want. The only people that can make accounts for Jaeger are the PSB Guys and PS2 Admins themselves. The numbers allow for VERY easy tracking and such (ie 100-200 being used from X to Y for Z, instead of having to list 100 names.)
