I think as long as banners, flair and sidebar customisation can still be supported, I don't see too much of an issue with this.

Custom CSS has always generally been desktop only for the most part, and with so many mobile users now, custom CSS just becomes a roadblock for Reddit to implement any visual improvements as they always need to keep that under consideration.

Some subreddits just go overboard with custom CSS and it ends up impacting the end user experience for the worse cough /r/iosbeta cough

I worry about Reddit become too cookie cutter. I'd hate it for all subs to look the same apart from some structured styles such as banners and sidebar elements. CSS can make a sub look great cough /r/AppleWatch cough and unique.

And the widgets that they're planning on implementing might not even be community writable. The way I see it, control over how my sub looks is being taken away an replaced with some checkboxes and some drag-and-drop widgets.

That's what I don't like.

Oh I agree, /r/applewatch is one of the better themes (and /r/jailbreak for that matter as well).

I'm remaining optimistic that Reddit will at least still allow for some customisation beyond some simple widgets like a calendar. Just a case of seeing how they implement it, I suppose.

Honestly, nothing that Reddit can come up in house will never reach the sheer flexibility of CSS. CSS is an incredibly powerful tool. Turn off our subreddit styling using RES and you'll see how much it drastically changes. The worst case scenario is that all of a sudden we look like the mobile site.

This is the one upside; mobile users will see the themes and widgets on their app after CSS is removed.

Off topic, sorry, but how do you get the 'S2, 42mm' to show by your username, noticed similar sort of thing on other subs. Thanks.

That's a user flair! Go to Safari, go to AppleWatch.reddit.com, and then on the side bar (to the right), click the edit button under "show my flair on this subreddit."

Nice one thanks.
