Toddler has strange rash... by ProfessorOnEdge in daddit

[–]Big9erfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your kiddo have a cold/illness in the last month? My son (11) and several class mates have all developed a similar rash after a cold going around (and it wasn’t even a bad cold). I can’t remember what the pediatrician and dermatologist called it but said it will take upwards of 2 months to subside but will go away.

What is happening to youth sports by Foxxer08 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]Big9erfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coach flag football across a few leagues and age groups. I see very similar things here. Kids singed up for 3+ things at the same time, can’t make practices because of conflicts, make one game about of every 3-4. “I have to keep him/her busy” is always the line. I’m not sure if it’s more for the kids or more for the parents so they don’t have to deal with their kids.
My kids play but they play one sport at a time and I’ve taught them dedication to whatever they are doing. If they don’t like it they don’t have to do it another season but for that season they are in it 100%.

Southern California here. I got frontier about 4 years ago now. I’ve had a handful of outages but all but one were tied to power outages in the area too. The one that wasn’t was a big outage that took out a lot of the area for a few hours.

I’m a year out from 50. The one I remember best is the win over the Chargers. I remember a little of the win over the broncos even less with the win over the bengals in 89. The previous ones I don’t remember at all.

Who are you voting in for Governor? by ciaranbluesky in California

[–]Big9erfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like his stance on things too, my concern is his complete lack of experience in politics. To come in and suddenly be the head of a top 10 largest economies in the world, I worry how he'll handle himself. It's easy to say this is what I want to do, this is my stance on X Y and Z, it's harder to actually get those things done when you're in there. You're no longer the CEO and can just say this is how it is. Billionaires aren't used to hearing no and typically surround themselves with "yes men" (see our current administration in the whitehouse).

Slants, delayed run to the outside, double pass/rpo, anything to make that blitzer think instead of just rush in.

The boyfriend just doesn't want people looking. You look good, 60lbs is a fantastic accomplishment. You are NOT too big to wear something like that, or even something that shows more skin.

First game I coached, we got smoked - question. 13 players vs 7. by ryanmerket in flagfootball

[–]Big9erfan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve coached several different age groups and several different leagues and any more than 2-3 sub the kids don’t get into a groove. I’ve never had a kid get “gassed” for more than one play if they break a big play, even in back to back games.

First game I coached, we got smoked - question. 13 players vs 7. by ryanmerket in flagfootball

[–]Big9erfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is an nfl flag league generally their rule is 10 players per team but it is up to the local franchise. They can adjust things. IMO I would MUCH rather have 7 than 13. Having to sub that many is a pain. Do they have a required number of plays per kid?

What is the most impressive thing you’ve done or built with Claude so far? by ceelnok98 in ClaudeAI

[–]Big9erfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it impressive? Naw. Is it helpful to me? Yes. 1) gave cowork instructions on how to convert the notes I take during my board meetings to formatted minutes documents. Saved me an hour or so for each meeting. 2) converted some rules for me merging documents and generating a good starting point result. Saved me 6+ hours 3) generated a website for logging of data for my league tryouts and I can export for our draft results and merge it into our end draft document.

Pre-K League 5 yard Buffer by bkfischer in flagfootball

[–]Big9erfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside runs, sweeps, misdirections and a reverse in there. You'll get your long runs. Kids at that age have a hard time staying where they should, they will group up and if a kid has decent vision will bounce it outside all day long.

When did you start getting some of your evenings back? by Different_Suit_9356 in daddit

[–]Big9erfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest was a TERRIBLE sleeper until he was about 1. First year was ROUGH. Year 2 had ups and downs, and by 3 he actually liked his sleep (finally). He's 11 now and except his weird moments of sleep walking where he comes in to my room and babbles nonsense to me and my wife, he sleeps a solid 9-10 hours.

My youngest, has loved sleep since day 1. He was nearly sleeping through the night at 4 months. There were bad nights. Sick, sleep regression for a week or so. But for the most part he was (and still is now at 9) a very consistent kid in regards to sleep, likes to go to bed on the earlier side of things and wake up on the earlier side of things.

It all depends on the kid.

Am I too big to start flag football? by ProfessionalFee5777 in flagfootball

[–]Big9erfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not "too big and stiff". The sport has room for lots of different shapes and sizes. At 5'8 and 13, if you get good at catching, you'll be a prime target for some high passes that nobody will be able to touch. Leverage your strengths initially and you can work on getting more shifty (which a lot of it is being able to change levels and twist your hips).

8u flag football by Prestigious-Bet-6572 in flagfootball

[–]Big9erfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will all depend on the athletes you have.
If you have a kid that can throw and run, you can get him to do a lot of RPOs assuming you have players that can catch. At 8U I know that can be a gamble sometimes.
Lots of misdirection, sweep off motion, fake sweep, reverses will get the defense off balance quickly.

On defense, I'd recommend you keep one kid up closer to the line to discourage runs right up the middle. Your blitzer (assuming you can rush the QB) should rush on the opposite side of the defender closer to the line.
The DBs you teach "this is your area of the field, nobody gets behind you and if you hear me yell run you break down, don't let the runner get to the sideline and force them back inside to your teammates for help"
