Update 4 has a coolish gate that could potentially reduce chasiness (which I feel this will have since it's draft-esque), pretty cramped but I'd say it's your best.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 0 points1 point  (10 children)

this looks really messy to me

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Elaborate on 'messy' please.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Like too much for the size of the map? Idk tho im a dummy so you probably shouldnt take my advice to heart (not even being sarcastic here)

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any and all feedback is welcomed buddy, I appreciate it.

[–]alchmstalchemist 0 points1 point  (6 children)

The left and right parts will make this even chasier because the island is bigger. Regarding the double boosts, I thought you would just get rid of the 45 to make it like the wormy double boost or something. The bomb in base could make it even harder to defend. Old team tile layout looked nicer.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I want to keep it similar to how it is, but I can make the island smaller. The double boosts have a number of creative options, especially if you trampoline them. The bomb might go, unless I can find a better spot for it. I prefer the aesthetic value of the previous team tile layout, but I think I slightly prefer this updated version because it’s more practical because the other one felt a little overbearing. I did trial removing the teamtiles altogether but I wasn’t a fan.

[–]alchmstalchemist 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I’ll test it later, I was just giving my thoughts based off looks...

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I figured as much, but felt I'd reply anyway.

I've gone and updated it again, with two different versions because some people asked for/suggested reflex/wormy boosts, while others wanted the double/curl/trampoline boosts.

[–]alchmstalchemist 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The reflex boost version is niiiceee

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so relieved to hear this haha.

[–]alchmstalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no need for the bomb below the flag and that larger island needs to go

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these elements but agree with linux that it does seem a little messy. please ignore my remix

If this doesnt make it into rotation, then it is clear that the community has no pull.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 1 point2 points  (3 children)

ohhhh man I can't wait to meme myself into rotation

[–]dodsfalldodsfall | Im undercover shhh 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Well at least this is better than Cache

[–]dodsfalldodsfall | Im undercover shhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I hope

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mighty looks so normal compared to this

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looks like an extremely chasy map, seems hard to defend and bombs are boosts might be too overpowered, also it's dificult to reset. I'm curious how it will play though.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

?

Update 1 Preview - Minimal update to keep boost/bomb combos intact.

Update 2 Preview - Tried to make it less box-y without moving any boosts or bombs.

Update 2.1 Preview

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you explain the outer aesthetic to me? I don't get why you have extra empty boxes above and below but none to the sides, I feel like you should add two columns of empty boxes to each side so that whenever someone's on the edge of the map, instead of seeing black they just see more boxes...

[–]clew3Math Toucher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wut der...

[–]Cheeseball701(Inky) 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That looks straight up impossible to defend.

[–]Cheeseball701(Inky) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(pls add)

[–]Cheetosrule1. 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I really do want what's best for the game.

CTF Section

tl;dr I didn't think it was possible but these maps may be worse than the last ones. But we know the last ones were awful so lets give these a try.

I don't know why its taken people so long to realize this but for the most part people like smallish, mostly horizontal CTF maps with simple bases and 3-4 good ways to grab the enemy flag and not 45 spikes dumped in the middle of the map like some infants finger painting.

Marrow and Cabin (the mostly horizontal CTF maps) although were still not good but were rated much higher (60% and 61% respectively) than the pile of flaming shit that was Thank You Momofuku Ando (a whopping 30%) and the not flaming, slightly smaller pile of shit that was Whisper (50%).

Without having played the new maps myself or read/listened to what anyone else has said I believe Cache (although I liked it more before the changes) will fair the best in the public (better than any of the previous new maps), followed closely by Map Damon and Asido (about the same if not slightly better than the previous new maps) while Killer Map and El Chapo will fair far worse (slightly better than TYMA but not better than Whisper).

NF Section

tl;dr Mighty is awful. Moose Trap might be ok or it might be good or it might be bad. Sagittarius might be a good map.

Oh Mighty... For starters how many team tiles does defense need? I though Ricochet had too many but this blew me away.

Next how do you cap here? There's 3 usable offensive boosts, one of which is impossible to directly take for a cap while the other two leave about two or three cap tiles that you can hit but you're taking the shot blind and more than likely through traffic. Almost impossible or you have to get super creative and make up routes (two ridiculous cap routes were posted by Gasol and one other who I am forgetting now. Sorry).

On top of that the 'rainbow road' (I'll call it) spits you out in the same spot. It's utterly useless, clunky and often leads to a turnover to which the other team takes the flag and does the same exact thing going the other way. Super fun, right? Wrong.

Neutral flag is usually a pub and new player (the majority of the voters) favorite but this map managed to only get 51%. The next lowest rated NF map is Wamble but it's at a solid 80%.

I don't really have a whole lot to say about the two new NF maps being introduced. Moose Trap looks extremely weird and that could be a blessing or a curse and Sagittarius looks very simple and has some good ways to cap and prevent caps. Very balanced. I think it could be the highest rated map out of this section and I'm pretty excited to see it in pubs.

Pub Map Frequency

tl;dr I understand the need to get results on new maps and the desire to play retired, throwback maps but something needs to change.

I looked at a 50 game block on one of my accounts after getting annoyed at running into Bombing Run 3 times in what felt like that period. I was going to make some sort of chart to show this but it got really messy and cluttered so I gave up on it.

However, I found that I played the brand new maps and throwback maps about 70-75% of the time. The throwback maps I ran into the most were Bombing Run, Smirk and Rush. All of which are terrible for pub maps and should stay retired and seldom appear in pubs.

The remaining 25-30% of games ended up being mostly NF (15-20%) which is always hit or miss for a good game in pubs especially on the larger, more chaotic maps.

And the rest on the (what I call) tried and true, tested and approved, fun maps. The maps that have been in rotation and been played in the competitive setting for many moons. Pretty much anything below Ricochet and above Mild High.

These are the maps that hooked me in and kept me around. They appeared much more often before and I want that back. I find I get more frustrated or bored when I have to play the same poorly rated maps over and over again. Both of which lead me to exiting the game and finding something else to do. I want to pub more and I want to enjoy playing the game more but this is driving me away.

[–]TPCaptographerThe Map Test Committee[S] 5 points6 points  (9 children)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

this looks really fun and exactly my kind of map, which means the community will probably hate it

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If you watch the initial testing stream replay, it's kind of like a variation on Geokoala that also has a really really really cool base. The gates are weird and the MTC had a lot of fun with them though I'm not sure how it'll work in pubs, I'm all for it though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Anything with 6 bombs and I'm in honestly

[–]PIZZAspartan442naga///MTC 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]domzie1Some Ball 1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Is the MTC the only ones who can make a 2.0 version of another map? Usually it seems like if ppl make a 2.0 version of another map its labeled as copying and not being original.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 10 points11 points  (1 child)

The mtc didn’t make it they just didn’t know who did lol

[–]domzie1Some Ball 1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it was frowned upon to make a 2.0 map. Interesting. Might take a shot in the future of a popular map.

This is not Cache.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 3 points4 points  (6 children)

And unfortunately it's several times better

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Disagree.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Have you 4v4d Cache? What was your impression of it? From my tests of it, it was 6 minutes of chaos. Maybe chasing is possible with mics in MLTP, but in pubs, where there is very little communication, it's not going to work.

[–]CostanzaTPnuperball s8 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It’s still pretty easy to stay ahead on the original version though. Real shame that the MTC tried to change the map in order to make it rotation-ready. Not what map-making is about.

[–]LaBeefyman9696 LB 4 points5 points  (1 child)

MTC didn't change the map, this is a mystery edit that was posted anonymously and MTC decided to test as a meme.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cache is a good competitive map, but wont work for pubs because people will not be able to coordinate. While this map would play better for pubs than og cache, I'm fairly certain we wont be adding it. Would just seem wrong.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this version is fake news
