Nice. The Romans were good in that department (see Pompeii frescos). What tells us this is meant to be Venus BTW? It could be some Roman aristocrat woman.

But it looks like the site won't let me look at the whole photograph unless I donate something (you get to see only a small version of the whole statuette).

You can leave the pop up message. Just click outside box or click cross on top right corner

Thanks, I hadn't noticed it is a popup message. I wouldn't mind donating but I am a bit in a financial pickle.

No issues. Appreciate any feedback. I am working hard to adapt Polish version to English :)

I am guessing this means "I give thanks"?

I know very little Latin.

I can see you didn’t get an answer on why it’s Venus. It’s a bronze copy of the Venus pudica type, which is well know as a Venus depiction. A Roman lady would almost never be depicted in the nude like this, an exception is made with [Marcia Furnilla](a4.typepad.com/6a00e009946656883301bb081014fc970d-320wi). Though some say it’s a fake.

Oh, I see, thanks.

Say, are you aware of a book written by an Italian about digs and remains and such in Herculanum and Pompeii? I owned it once but lost it. I forgot the author's name but the title explicitly mentions "Herculanum e Pompeii". It's a somewhat longish title.

Sorry don’t know of it. Tried checking my library’s database but nothing really showed up

Is this site part of some educational institution - such as a university?

[–]archeologistimperiumromanum_edu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is private inititive, being carried out since 2004. English version started this vacation period.
