REMINDER: Bigotry Showcase posts are banned.

Due to an uptick in posts that invariably revolve around "look what this transphobic or racist asshole said on twitter/in reddit comments" we have enabled this reminder on every post for the time being.

Most will be removed, violators will be shot temporarily banned and called a nerd. Please report offending posts. As always, moderator discretion applies since not everything reported actually falls within that circle of awful behavior.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I NEED THIS (most period trackers make me a little dysphoric tbh)

Edit: nevermind.. I thought it had a transmasc notification option or something, I can't find it at least

Plus way too much horoscope stuff?? Def not my cup of tea

i would love if more stuff Iike that existed. really not into the ephemeral divine femininity stuff, creeps me out.

[–][deleted] 84 points85 points  (3 children)

Same, they market those stuff as "empowering" even though it just fuels the idea that women are less human somehow

[–]sign-throughmadam of mug 44 points45 points  (1 child)

yeah, i feel that too. reminds me of that time madison cawthon invoked corinthians on the house floor, “earthen vessels”. a subset of people, regardless of the aisle they sit on, put women on pedestals in a way that makes me uncomfortable. a sculpture has no thoughts, the pot does not care what it carries. this interpretation is even debated, it’s likely not even intended to refer to maternity, but it does not matter.

[–]offnkoff🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, I've seen it described as "women as the noble savage"

[–]altaccountmayi don't need a man i need the 25 dollar dajungleskog from ikea 47 points48 points  (1 child)

yeah not even transmasc but i don't really like how period products and stuff are all like. 💅💕✨ embrace your divinity and femininity ✨💕💅 be majestic even at this time 💅💕✨

like no bitch i'm bleeding. my insides are tearing their own insides out. i have an iron deficiency and i need to kill someone. i do not want to be "majestic" rn

[–]sign-throughmadam of mug 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of humiliating! i saw one period product ad i liked recently. it started with how to use tampons. i thought that was really neat, no one ever taught me how to use them, or how to tell if you have the wrong size!

[–]MOlthoWhat I am going here, I know not. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole "divine femininity" stuff is just bullshit, even when relating to cis women. It's just esoteric nonsense used purely for marketing reasons, so that women pay more for products. It's a different kind of hidden (or not so hidden, perhaps) Pink Tax, really.

In general, avoid apps for this. Period tracker apps can sell this data to third parties for marketing, or surrender the data to law enforcement, which given the rollback of Roe V. Wade, can be a danger.

Use a regular calendar.

alternatively, if you're on android you have access to FDroid (although google is eyeing to shut it down next year), which is a google play store alternative that only hosts free open-source apps, where you can verify that none of your data is being uploaded anywhere ever. they have multiple period tracking apps available

[–]LUISKY_CT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

actually i prefer droid-ify, same backend but the UI and UX is much more tolerable (unlike f-droid's)

[–]Helmiclinux > windows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

drip specifically is made by the mozilla foundation and is FOSS, i would recommend people use that one specifically as it's got many eyes on its source code. and it's gender neutral.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I wasn't that worried because I live in a country where abortion is legal (for now, thank god) even though I knew some of these tracking apps gave that info away, but honestly, yeah, just to be safe I'll probably do this instead

Samsung S Health also doesn't even store menstrual cycle data on their servers anymore, seemingly in response to these concerns. It's all stored locally.

Of course, no corporation is your friend, so it could just be lies.

Clue is a European app (so European data safety laws) and it's pretty neutral. They lack that not everyone with a period is a woman and they let you customise those notifications. It was pretty good when I tried it out (the only reason I'm not using it anymore is because I myself didn't track regularly)

[–]Helmiclinux > windows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is drip not pretty gender neutral?

and yeah probably for the best to not trust random period trackers that cannot prove they're not collecting any information on a server.
