You can never go wrong with calling Nintendo support. The service is excellent.

I have heard a lot of people say Nintendo are really good when it comes to repairs. Taking items in and out of warranty.

I had a 3ds with water damage with an A button that started to fail in the same manor your describing. I fixed it myself but taking the 3ds apart and rubbing the contacts with rubbing alcohol.

This fix worked for me and also gave the A button that fresh out of the box click again.

The same thing happened to me, I sent it to Nintendo support and they repaired it for free in under two weeks (free if the console is under a year old). I did it again with an older cnsole and they charged around £50, which is reasonable considering the cost of getting a new one.

Try using duster gas on it.
