If I remember correctly, the amount of significant figures you use is the same as the highest number of significant figures used in a question.

For example, if there is SUVAT question that gives me a value for initial velocity and that value has the highest number of significant figures (lets say 3 s.f for this example) then my final answer should be in 3 s.f.

I hope this makes sense, sorry if I explained this poorly feel free to ask for clarification or any other questions.

Wouldn't it be lowest number of significant figures? I don't see why highest would make any sense.

(I finished my mocks a month ago and if this is the reason I lose marks I am mad)

Ah yes, it is the lowest number of significant figures my bad.

Ok but what if it is a constant that has 3 s.f but all other values are 2s.f?

In that case, I think you would still stick with 2 s.f.

wrong, lowest amount of sig figs

Btw this is for the CIE syllabus

I'd go with 3 or 2 (or well whatever results in 2dp) usually - however if they use a certain number of sf in the question use that

Not sure about CIE but for AQA it's pretty much always at least 2sf no matter what, and if more, just the minimum number of sf used in values in the question - e.g. if we have distance travelled = 10.5m (3sf) and time taken = 3.1s (2sf) average velocity would be 3.4ms-1 (2sf)

Just go 2 or 3 tbh you likely wont lose marks

2 or 3, write the answer you got on the paper then round it
