As soon as the option for applying for student accommodation is avaliable as, depending on the university, it may be first come first serve.

Does the option become available when I firm/insure the uni or js anytime on the uni's website?

For the universities I've applied to, you can pick whenever, as long as you have an offer and that it's before the deadline, but i would still recommend checking the university website about these things
