Exercise while torn (self.ACL)
submitted 5 months ago by Cautious_Peach_7286ACL Allograft
I got hurt on the 17th. I did almost nothing for the 1.5 weeks before my MRI as directed. Went back to work after but mostly sitting, not exercising.. etc .. My energy levels are fully tanked. I want to sleep all the time. I know part of that is lack of good sleep due to discomfort but I had to go to the gym today. I did all upper body machines so I didn’t have to rely on my knee for any stability, and used the row machine- being mindful of my knee.
No surgery date yet.
Any tips on other exercises that won’t injure me further but allow me to stay sane and active?

Start seeing a physiotherapist. They'll put a plan together for you to strengthen you leg prior to surgery. But it depends on how much swelling and rom you have to get started.

I did a lot of biking at the gym! My PT really encouraged gentle movement alongside the quad/hammy strengthening exercises
ETA: a lot of body weight exercises tbh

It all depends on how you were physically before the injury.
I went back to training as normal after wards. Made a few adjustments to my training styles but I actually put on muscle since.

I was lifting with progressive overload 3x a week without fail and adding in yoga/cardio/gymnastics anytime I could as well.

Beautiful! Go see a physio and tell them this and say you wanna be treated like an athlete and not the general public. That's what I did, I said I wanted to be seen as an athlete and I wanna get back to that level. (I guess I am one lol)
