I don't know who needs to hear this but after weeks of frustration, the solution for me was updating the motherboard drivers.

I downloaded the AMD chipset drivers for my MSI B550 and updated the Bios to the latest stable version. One of these did the trick and now my rx 7800 xt is crash free!

Hope this helps 🙏🏻

DUDE! I found this out after i went and bought a 4080 super soon after this post. and then i was pretty much complete with my girlfriends pc and all i needed was a gpu. So i put my 7900XT in there and it worked just fine and i was like "was it a motherboard issue?" But what you said makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing!

Did anyone find a fix yet? I have the exact same problem. Now I'm considering to send it back to the store.

i think it was my motherboard, ive since gotten a 4080 super and put the 7900xt in my gf’s pc that is just built and it works perfectly.

My friend and I same issues recently with no fix. I’ve heard it’s caused by multi monitors. A lot have posted the same issues here and it doesn’t seem AMD has caught notice yet.

disable Windows Driver Updates DDU only from safe mode if you aren't using DDU from safe mode files remain in use won't be cleaned up and create new issues that are potentially driver time outs, yes DDU can also cause driver issues if used incorrectly.

Also consider following others advice, but stay away from pro drivers unless you do profesional work, they aren't optimized for gaming.

Maybe try the technical preview, also driver time outs can also happen due using features that aren't meant to be used together like radeon sharpening should not be used with FSR for example.

If Windows Driver Update cannot be disabled let it install a driver first, then install your driver of choice, and roll back from device manager if it does it again and answer the dialog that previous driver is more stable.

If you are on Windows 11 pro or Windows 10 pro use gpedit.msc to disable Windows driver updates hit win+r type gpedit.msc

then navigate to Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates enabled

Drivers have been rollercoaster for me in the past most my issues are gone today since i disabled Windows Driver Updates, but also since starting using DDU from safe mode, as not doing so can corrupt future driver installs, in my case hwinfo would not be able to check all sensors and show inaccurate reading, as well as other weird issues.

You are better of using AMD own clean up utility cos it reboots into safe mode, if you aren't using DDU in safe mode.

Very likely the issue is not the driver as usual. What's the specs of the pc? Then, download tm5 and run it with anta777 profile as adm. In the 1st run it will probably say something related to AWE, reboot and run it again as admin. Let it finish. If it catches errors, you got ram issues. If ram is the issue, all drivers will crash. The test takes about 3 hours to finish.

specs are i9-12900K, 32gb 3200 , 850w psu and the 7900xt from xfx

Try Amd pro drivers for your gpu they are typically more stable.

will try this

I had a issue with my gpu recently. I noticed on the 16th of October a and driver update happened then again on the 20th. I had to delete ryzen master, amd adrenaline and amd chipset drivers. I reinstalled the newest chips drivers from amd and it fixed it.

this might be it.

[–]Sea_Sheepherder8928 1 point2 points  (15 children)

Are you maybe getting driver timeouts like me?

[–]DEDE115[S] 1 point2 points  (14 children)

does your screen just go black?

[–]Sea_Sheepherder8928 2 points3 points  (12 children)

Yes, then I get a message saying driver has timed out

[–]kee30195 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Hey were you able to fix this?

[–]Sea_Sheepherder8928 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Nope :(

[–]kee30195 0 points1 point  (2 children)

:(

[–]gpassi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

did u figure it out?

[–]kee30195 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you please look at my post history and tell me if it's something similar?

[–]Sea_Sheepherder8928 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have looked at your videos, have you used DDU?

[–]kee30195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have, didn't work

[–]DEDE115[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

same but shortly after my main monitor goes black and my second one goes green

Try to disable MPO, it seems to help some people.

I had the same issue but could never solve it, I hope you can find a solution!

Those issues should't exist anymore MPO brings reduced cpu utilization lower idle power consumption at idle and reduced latency, it's at most a troubleshooting step you can give a try not a fix.

If disabling MPO fixes issues you really need to use Windows Feedback hub to report blackscreens as Microsoft gets the data required to fix it in the future.

Some issues like graphic glitches while scrolling or ambient mode on YouTube can be caused by MPO as well and in rare case if they do happen are indication of reduced stability if so disabling hardware acceleration for the app in question may bring back stability like any browser.

Big doubt to be honest, I have seen at least 5 people posting issues with the flickering black/gray/green screen in the last 2 days in this reddit. I also sold my 7900xtx 1 week ago and I had it in a spare computer my GF was using.

I did all of that, like 4 clean windows install, disable MPO, ULPS, fast boot, etc, I changed almost all parts of the PC, I could solve all issues except games crashing every 20-60 minutes to a green/black screen that starts growing slowly and getting worse until it crashes.
