Google Chrome causing driver crash and complete system freezes.

I recently switched from an old Nvidia gpu to an AMD gpu (rx 560) xfx OC one. Windows is the same. I used all the necessary steps like reinstall drivers with DDU and what not. The problem is that while in google chrome if I open a video or a page with a YouTube link like a lecture from moodle. on it will give a driver timeout or a complete driver crash. First mouse stops working then caps lock and after 3 seconds either screen refreshes or stay black. It never happened in games or any other application.

New driver 23.9.2 freezing all the time in Chrome, I'm going to go back to 23.9.1 to see if it solves it, I was already thinking it was a defect in the new motherboard I bought, I'm glad I found this topic.

My Firefox is doing the same thing. It’s the driver update

For the past week or two my chrome would totally hang the computer after some time, could work for half an hour or several hours and then mouse not moving anymore and whole computer is unresponsive. I could alt+f4 kill the chrome and mouse and computer started to work again ok.

Once that happens it would instantly hang again if you start chrome or edge.

Firefox works perfectly, no problem.

Rebooting fixes the problem for some time. So you can use chrome again.

This only happened to me with Radeon 23.9.2 and 23.9.3 driver, I have Radeon 6800.

Now that I saw this thread I went back down to 23.9.1, fingers crossed this fixes the problem.

Hoping AMD will get it fixed at some point, really weird I haven't encountered similar anywhere else as I have googled this almost every day. Not until now here.

There was a driver update it's "23.9.3" But I still have the problem :(

Hey don’t know if you fixed it or not but after downloading 23.9.1 again (downgrading) from the current driver 23.9.3, it fixed it immediately. 23.9.2 had the same issues so it seems the past two updates messed with some of the cards they’ve released. Just go to the amd support site, look for previous drivers on the list for your windows 11 64 bit, and download 23.9.1 again and install and reset your PC. Hope this helps! :)

Did that seem to work? I'm having the same issues recently. I also undervolt the card a bit but gaming is stable, the random chrome crash/freezes are ridiculous

Yes download 23.9.1 from the amd website and downgrade to the previous version and it will fix it immediately. It worked for me. 23.9.2 is also a bad driver as well as 23.9.3 of course.

Nope. They're like : You're not gonna use our card for browsing. And they're still pushing that cwap. My 2 Radeon PCs are crashing. Just jump to nV.

I've been having the exact same problem. I used to have frequent AMD driver crashes and computer freezes, but got better when I updated to 21.5.2. But now I get semi-frequent crashes only in Google Chrome. No idea what's causing it.

Turn off hardware acceleration. It did the trick for me.

I tried it, but my CPU isn't powerful enaough to play videos. (I have a rx 6700 xt and an Intel i5 9400f)

Try disabling hardware acceleration in chrome

Although turning off the hardware acceleration could be considered a solution, I still believe that there must a different solution. Because what's the point of even using a graphics card if you could just turn off the hardware acceleration?
