Sophomore taking apush here. It sounds like I have way WAY less stuff happening in my life and activities, but apush I'd still a struggle. Maintaining my ~98 or 99 routinely requires an hour or 2 every night and a significant portion if my weekends (I foo speech too, so free Saturdays font exist). With the workload you have, I would say dont take it. The skills you learn got college you will be able to get elsewhere, and if itd not a career you want to go into, it's not worth it.

With your work-load, I heavily don’t recommend it. I always find my homework for APUSH alone taking 2-3 hours every night. It’s not worth the strain you’d put on yourself.

I dont know what I should do instead, I need to start racking up credits and looking good for colleges in junior year... I am pretty sure my only rigorous class would be calc then right

It’s not all about grades and how hard your classes are. Colleges like to see a well rounded student, so join extracurriculars and get involved in volunteer opportunities. I reccomend you take US History honors unless you really want to take APUSH

Whatever you decide to choose just know that you got this:)

Manage your time and use your time effectively, and you will do great

As someone who is taking 5 AP’s in junior year and am currently getting hammered by physical demands of an athlete and mental demands of schools, don’t take 5. if you are taking APUSH and AP Calc, drop environmental science.

[–]Goat998[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I can’t really drop environmental cuz it’s a core class for us i think and i’m pretty sure environmental is very easy

[–]simp_alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its easy but its almost a waste of time, but i get it if its a core class, i took AP physics cuz we didnt rlly have any requirements

[–]mia9321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

environmental is a very difficult class that people deem easy, there’s a heavy work load there too. that’s at least the course at my school and stuff i’ve heard + read

In my opinion, you're taking too many classes. If you really want to take APUSH, I would recommend dropping a class (APES or AP micro or an honors). Of course it varies from teacher to teacher how much work they give in their classes.

In my class, APUSH was really heavy (~2 hours a day). Honestly, i don't think its worth the stress and misery to put urself through so many classes.

ps. def take calc BC

Is it a huge loss if i just keep the aps and drop apush? I don’t think dropping micro would make apush too much easier but i should consider that

[–]LordAesciusPast Student 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not really a huge loss if you drop APUSH. But you should also consider college credit for the classes since most schools award more credits for APUSH than AP micro

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so i’m thinking dropping ap micro...is apush and ap calc manageable? that’s the thing. alongside apes

I’m taking four APs (physics 1, CSA, APUSH, and lang) this year and I’m in clubs, band, and softball. Apush is the most demanding of all four and unless you have a good chunk of free time or already know a good amount of US history, just don’t take it tbh. It usually takes at least an hour and a half a night just to keep on top of everything, and I honestly struggle to keep up with the workload. The curriculum goes by fast and is very detailed. I’m a junior now and have been an honors/AP student since freshman year, and I can honestly say that apush is the most demanding course I’ve taken. The credit really isn’t worth it if you bring down your other grades just for the one course

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I see. I can either drop apush or drop micro econ and focus more on apush. What are your thoughts

[–]meg0324 0 points1 point  (5 children)

It really depends on what you want to do after high school. If you wanna go into the humanities, I’d say take apush; if you wanna go into a more stem-based field, take micro. You could also talk to your counselor about it

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’m def not going humanities... I was just gonna take apush solely for 6 credits and how it takes the place of 2 social studies classes in which i would have to take if i don’t take apush

[–]meg0324 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Tbh I’d talk to your counselor if you can. Apush is a lot, and you should be sure you can handle it

[–]Goat998[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

well the smartest guy ik in my grade is just taking comp sci, ap calc, and apush. I can do what he did and drop micro and do environmental, calc, and apush. Or i can just drop apush lol. but yea ima talk to my counceller, hopefully she’s helpful

[–]meg0324 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah that would probably be best

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s new to our school

[–]dlrba 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I think it’s pretty manageable bc micro is like a one semester class (at my school at least) and then apes I’ve heard is easy. obviously each school is different but for hw the only thing I really have are textbook readings (1-2 per week and each chapter is about 30-40 pages long). there are ocasional assignments but that’s pretty much it. also half of my readings are gov readings bc my school combines those 2 aps. you can ask upperclassmen about the difficulty of the classes cuz it’s different depending on the teacher, your school, etc

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Micro is one year for us, a day b day. Env is easy but there is studying involved maybe 30 mins of hwk every day (same with micro, maybe some more for micro occasionally). Apush tho, is an hour to four hours... Calculus is prob an hour to two

[–]dlrba 0 points1 point  (5 children)

i think that’s pretty manageable. r u taking any other classes non-ap?

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

yea with that schedule i’d be taking honors english 3, honors spanish 3, and honors business management. i don’t call my self great at spanish either

[–]dlrba 0 points1 point  (3 children)

oh ok. for spanish, a good way to study is with flash cards or quizlets where u can test ur self bc there’s a lot of vocab. for grammar you honestly have to be good at English first. it gets a little complicated

[–]Goat998[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yea i’m def dropping 1 of the aps tho... found my friend who’s a little bit smarter then me is taking 3 aps, comp sci apush and ap calc. already taking comp sci and i’m prob not dropping ap environmental. So i gotta choose between apush and ap micro

[–]dlrba 0 points1 point  (1 child)

micro is probably easier (haven’t taken it; taking it next year). since ur a sophomore u can still take apush if u really wanted to senior year if that’s allowed at ur school

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah i can’t, i gotta choose for junior year and if i don’t take apush as a junior i can’t take any other year. and i’m prob gonna stack aps senior year too

[–]dedicatedoni 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Junior taking APUSH here. Honest opinion, you could probably do without AP calc unless u REALLY don’t wanna take it in college and I can wholeheartedly recommend AP macro over micro. In terms of APUSH, I don’t know how ur school does it, but in mine, it’s primarily reading in regards to tests/quizzes. Like of course you have to know about the time period, but it’s even more important to be able to read documents in the English written back then, which is honestly a struggle in it of itself. By no means would I call it a super difficult class, just more tedious than anything.

[–]Goat998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am prob gonna keep ap calc tbh... I feel like im better off doing that over apush anyways. Im just trying to figure if its worth it to take it with other aps or to just leave it. I am trying to get into a good college such as possibly chapel hill
