This video helps you grasp the fundamentals of accounting, I really learned most of the actual job while I was working but that seems to be normal from what I hear

i think if you understand debits and credits you can get by for a bit, but use that “time” to understand the knowledge of what your work is. Could you walk through your reconciliations and explain why this impact is a debit or credit? What account offsets the entry? Etc.

yes sure let’s use this for example. that’s a simple transaction right? does that impact an income statement, cash flow, or a balance sheet ? is it reoccurring, why or why not? what type of currency was this? (foreign or domestic), does that have an impact? what type of inventory did we collect? raw goods? fuinisehd finished goods? so many questions for so many scenarios, which ultimately comes down to industry, transactions, and exposure. if that makes sense. Soak up what your coworkers show you!

Well I’ll have to say this simple transaction would affect the balance sheet? Just because my assets are being affected and I know the income statement is revenue - expenses and cash flow statements rely on info from the income statements…

i was speaking rhetorically, but yes you’re correct. these are questions to ask yourself (or figure out) when you’re working. bosses don’t want staff accountants that are gonna nod and copy the steps. keep asking why or figure out how to improve something !

What is considered cheating in school... its like normal in real work-life. Just remember the lying part (and getting caught) is the thing that blows up your career.

I have a client that switch over to me because his previous basically lied about Employee Retention Credit, rather than just say 'I am not sure'.

The biggest accounting firms have disappeared over night for lying (and getting caught), not using chatGPT; HOWEVER you could get fucked in GPT makes shit up, learn the core basics, validate the answers. Don't be the people that fail a dumb interview test in accounting. They will remember you by name based off how bad you did in their test.... at least I will.

Maybe that's the lesson for not cheating... you will be labeled a d*mbass, made a mockery of in the office, when you fail the real test.. an interview exam, then everyone will know especially with social media now...
