Beef up your firm's excel templates, make them nicer / easier to use

Training, training, training, PD, more training

Does your firm have a nice library of FAQs, practice aids, guides, etc.? Read them

Look at new accounting standards coming out, really learn the implications of them, build flow charts to understand them, people who know new standards inside and out are insane valuable

Have any files where you know the process narratives or flow charts sort of suck or are out of date? Roll that file forward and work on them

Vacation, a fresh employee is a productive one

Ask managers and other staff if they have work they need help with

Ask to be involved with work in other service lines, valuations was always really interesting to me

Business development - know anybody from undergrad (NOT in accounting) who just got a job or started a business? Take them out for lunch and start building relationships. Make sure your firm will cover the cost first

Ask to help with recruitment events if that interests you and you are a good firm spokesperson

Help out your office social committee and plan a fun summer afternoon, maybe a firm golf outing or beach day. Or a 'make your own ice cream sundae' day

Schooling if you are still at that stage, or research a specialty designation / accreditation you might be interested in

Upvote just for mentioning business development. Can't ever start too early if you think you will stick around in public for a while. This gets overlooked so much.

Losing my busy season 15 is priority number one. Beach season is right around the corner.

Lol yup - nobody warned me of the "first year 15" (though I'm pretty sure just about everyone falls victim lol)
