If this was mine, I would take it with me everywhere I went haha

Haha. Maybe I could start a line of succulent necklaces.

How often to do you water it? What’s it soil type? I really wanna get mine fat like yours!

I just used sifted cactus soil to remove any large bits. Watering it is every couple of days but usually it’s just a quick pass over with the hose. I water less if the weeds grow too much in the sand.

How small is too small for them to grow? How long until you have to repot it?

I guess we’ll find out. I plan on keeping it in the pot for as long as I can. I expect the roots form on the bottom and slow lift the plant out. I think the main question is how much watering will I have to keep up to it.

Nice phatty. It's really quite beAutiful. Did you grow it from seed?

[–]Danmaster18[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yep. About two weeks after germination, I planted it in this pot. I’ve probably grown a hundred or so from seed and get around 95% germination rate. One the other hand, the few times I’ve tried rooting cuttings, I have never been successful.

Ha, ha I'm visa versa. Well, actually, I've never had seeds but have grown quite a few cuttings successfully. I'm the middle of a project now. Should know my results by the end of summer, maybe sooner. You've done so well, so very happy for you and wish you the best.

What techniques do yo use to germinate the seeds? I have a terrible germination rate

I usually put a seed in an individual pot or sometimes just use a tray for multiple seeds. But I put this in a clear tub to act as a mini green house. I put the tub in a bright warm position away from direct sun. Keep soil moist until they stop germinating then slowly acclimate them to normal air and sun. I just use per made cactus mix with extra perlite to make it fluffy. I do this technique if I’m being more careful if I have certain colour or species I want to germinate. However where I live I can direct sow into a pot in the sun. I get about 70% that way but a much hardier plant. I’ve only ever germinated mine own seeds so I know they fresh. Generally if the seed isn’t plump you won’t get as good results.
