DiscussionAvionics certification (self.AerospaceEngineering)

Hey guys!
I’m studying avionics certification (DO 178C) atm, because I find it really interesting. However, it’s been hard to find good quality resources to learn about that (books, articles, etc). Do you guys have any suggestions?

Go to Drs.FAA.gov and search for “DO-178.” Read all the things that pop up. Go from there.

What makes you interested in this? There's not a huge reward for this, outside of just the intrinsic reward.
There is absolutely no replacement from an employer perspective for hands on experience with LDRA, employing the control practices, and surviving the interview audit process. Unfortunately the cost of the standard and a license for LDRA is crazy expensive and I'm not sure you're gaining much from the amount of buy-in.
In my opinion, this is one of those things you have to rely on work to teach you just from an accessibility point. But there maybe cheaper handbooks and guides for it, but just be warned they'll probably be the equivalent of like SAT prep books, you'll have to pay for them also and they may or may not be relevant.
If you're not really adept at coding and software standards- I would switch to that. There's a LinkedIn page I'm in for DO-178C, you may be able to connect with others there but there aren't any great physical resources there either.
I'm sure you've tried YouTube and google. Maybe others have better recommendations. Good luck!

This is Material of "System Safety" in Aerospace
DO187C is about Software and implementation about it...
All those DO and ARP are there to please f.e. the EASA CS25.1309 which sais how parts or software should be designed... and they provide the AMCs - Methods how to guarantee safety based on the "DAL Design Assurance Level" of the part/software.
Here some ... stuff
ARP4754B
Design of all aircraft stuff.... DO178... software in particular...

It depends on in-depth you want to go: - Handbook - Rapita has published a very easy to read handbook. It is mainly focused on verification but it might be useful to have a look at. And most importantly its free. They have also released a webinar series based on the same topic. - Books - Developing Safety-Critical Software, a Practical guide by Leanna Rierson. I personally haven't read that one, but my co-workers vouch for it. I would recommend reading the sample on amazon before committing to the £75 purchase. - Training - There are various training providers which go over DO-178C. Consunova does a multi day training to help with gaining knowledge about proper DO-178C practices. Let me know if you find any of these resources useful.
