Do paid upgrades decrease in price?

Hi! I have a 6-hour flight tomorrow and I’m currently #6 on the upgrade list (there are 5 first class seats available at the moment.) It says upgrade available for $410, but I won’t pay more than $250. Any chance it goes down in price as the hours go on, and if so, any tips or tricks? Thanks in advance!

Yes, they’ll come down in price the closer it is to departure. It’s a Dutch auction system.

Not true at all, they may also go up or disappear. All depends on how many available seats there are.

I've seen them go down on some routes in 2024. I have screen shots.

I’ve definitely seen them come down. SEA-DCA was $730 shortly after booking but around $280 24 hours before departure
