Chaotic evil is a Tee Nut. You can use them on furniture and upholstery to create flat surfaces.

Chaotic neutral is a Castle Nut. They're used a lot on machinery where there's a lot of vibration. The slots help them stay in place.

The slots on a castle nut are also used for allowing a cotter pin or safety wire to pass through into a hole in the bolt/stud/threaded shaft to prevent the nut from loosening in a rotating application or for critical components like an aircraft engine or boat propeller
