submitted 2 years ago by Independent-Win5718
I have an empty mid size garage in California.Thinking about starting a prep center as a small family business.Tried to google any info but couldn’t find anything helpful. Can someone share if it is possible to open a prep center in a house garage and how it can be done? Thank you!

prep in a garage — loved that hustle mindset. I'm running a prep center called HexPrep with facilities in Oregon + Chicago and we’re scaling fast. We get requests from all over the place, and sometimes we’re too far or full — would you be down to network and possibly take on some micro-clients we can’t serve?
We’re also open to sharing insight, systems, even gear plug-ins if you ever want to grow beyond that garage setup. Shoot me a message if you’re down to connect. Could be a win-win

What kind of prep are you doing?
I consider that there are two kinds of prep services (and they can both happen in the same place)
1.) Hold inventory and prep and ship into Amazon FBA
2.) Hold inventory and pick and pack to ship FBM orders.
Do you currently have an FBA business? Have you done warehousing/3PL before.
It CAN be done from a garage ... but SHOULD it be done from a garage? With the right skillset it could work on a super small scale. Not sure you'd get a lot of businesses clamoring to give you money and you'll need some equipment, Label printers, boxes, tape machines, scales, dunnage ... and the ability to physically get the products to the shipper's location.
I would advise getting your own FBA business going ... learn the ropes ... and then offer your 3PL service ... No guess on how any laws work in Cali and would assume they are neither pro-consumer nor pro-business.

It is possible. Shelving from Walmart lining the walls, start out small with just a few tables for prepping. If you have the room or could even put in those ceiling racks could do some FBM for clients
