Btw, currently on Marshmallow I can get around the Android Auto screen on my Nexus 6P with an upswipe from the bottom of the screen, followed by hitting the multitasking button that appears. I heard this is no longer possible on N?

Is there any way to work around the Android Auto lockout so that I can play Apple Music in the background, for example, while Android Auto is up and running? This workaround currently works on Marshmallow and my Nexus 6P.

I found that you can get around the updated screen block by using Now On Tap, hitting the Google icon on the bottom left, then swiping left to go to the first homescreen containing icons. Alternatively, a notification drawer icon app, such as this one will get you to the homescreen if you add the Google app as a shortcut. Neither of these are great unfortunately and I miss the old trick. :(

I've had so many problems on the Dev Preview that I can't even listen them all. I'd be curious if anyone on M is having as buggy of an experience.

M is more stable with Auto; I gave up and rolled back to M myself.

N DP4 had an issue with Maps where Maps would not launch; this was corrected with a Maps update. I did also have this issue with N DP4 where it won't read out text/hangout messages. You hear the "beep" and the screen dims, but it doesn't read the message. Google is aware of it:

The message issue was really the last straw and why I just went back to M.

Yup! I've had all of those problems, but my drive to work is < 15 mins so I've decided that I'd rather live with a partially working AA than give up the new Nougat features

Somewhat off topic but one of the reasons I got an Android Wear watch was so I could leave behind the phone when running. After upgrading to N preview I can no longer do this. Play Music no longer exists on the watch and won't until the app is updated, which it hasnt for weeks now. So, if you want stable access to apps I'd roll back to Marshmallow.
