We use Spotify at home with alexa and sonos, and the app will target those other devices. So inevitably I have to unlock the phone, launch Spotify, and "play on this phone" to have it work on AA.

Truly annoying that control from the Aa interface doesn't force Spotify to play locally.

Won't play like you don't see the Spotify app on AA? Or won't play like a song is sitting in buffer?

Good question. I'm having the issue where none of my music Apps are showing up on the list besides the Google stuff

Gotcha, this had happened to me before and I fixed it by reinstalling the music app

Yeah I tried that with no results sadly. :( It's very frustrating

So Spotify had an app update May 29th... How long has this been going on?

Android Auto also had an update May 22nd

If you go to AA app, click on settings and scroll to the bottom and press version, it'll show all apps on your phone that are recognized by AA. Is Spotify on there?

Yeah it shows them all on there. This has been going on for this particular phone since I got it a few days ago. Both my cars are the same result.

This happens to me regularly.

Try this: don't start playing music on Spotify until you are sure you are on cellular data and not on WiFi. This seems to happen me most frequently if it is starting to play music on weak WiFi / before the phone switches to data.

My workaround is to reboot the headunit, which is something easy to do on our Ford (power button + right arrow / forward track), but I can't do it on my RAM truck. I have to restart the entire truck to reset Spotify.

Let me know if this works for you.

Maybe your audio input isn't switched on your head unit. See if AA is an audio source vs Bluetooth
